Is there not a supplier who makes a cork/metal differential cover gasket for our Dana 80's? I can't wait 12-24 hours for this "silly puddy" gasket material to cure.

What do you do?

Get a tube of Permatex gasket silicone, put it on the cover, let it skin over for about 15 to 20 minutes then put cover on. No leaks, works great... ... ... ... ... . pete

Once you get the cover back on and remove the jack stands;) your ready to go. This stuff is designed to work in this application. You want to make a nice bead, like a welders bead to include going around the bolt holes for a perfect seal. It will seal very nicely once you torque the bolts down. Now don't worry about it getting into the fuild cause it ain't going nowhere. Once it skins over it will pretty much stay in place... ... ... ... ... ... Pete

As I sit here, I hold in my hand the answer to your problem. Go on down to your local NAPA Dealer and ask for part # 765-2694 by Permatex. It is called GASKET the Right Stuff. Think of it as black cheese whiz in a can. You can use this stuff on anything and you do not have to wait for it to skim over or dry or cure! It works great. :D :D :D

Permatex Oranage,Blue,Black all work!

I have changed my 95 5sp, rear diff. 5 times, and several other Dodge trucks numerous times. Summertime and wintertime.

I have used the hightemp orange Permatex, the Cool Blue Permatex and the plain old Black Permatex.

I clean with brake cleaner, add a bead to the cover (factory), install imediately. Wait 30 - 50 minutes. Then add oil and drive away. I would guess the waiting could be shorten even more.

Never a leak, simple, fast, and very easy the second time around.

i used Permatex ULTRA BLACK silicone... applied a bead,i then smoothed it out with a putty knife. . being careful to keep a nice thickness, and waited maybe 15 min. and bolted her up!!!!

NO leaks at all!!!!. tom. P. S. i drove right after adding the fresh oil.

Go to NAPA and get a gasket. There books are not updated for the diesel or v-10 but the 89-90 gasket they have listed ( last Dodge year in new 2001 book ) fits, if you need the front diff gasket( dana 60 ) the NAPA part # is P18562.
