I was gonna change all the oils today went to the dealership to get a new cover gasket. The guy at the parts counter came back with a tube of Mopar black silicone. He said that was what the computer called for. I asked him how much and he said it was $8. I said no thanks and decided to ask you guys to see if he was just being lazy about it.

Does anyone make a real gasket for the Dana 80?

Actually there is no paper gaskets from Dodge for any of Dodge's trucks. All the axles 1/2,3/4,1-tons use the silicone sealant.

I personally prefer to use a paper gasket with very little silicone on each side of the gasket. I got the gaskets for $3. 50 at a driveline shop.

The dodge stuff does not work real well. I changed out the oil in my pumpkins about a month ago and I got leaks. So I went back to the tried and true stuff that they sell at the parts house. It's called (THE RIGHT STUFF) and comes in a cheez whiz style can. If you use this stuff, no leaks at all. I've used it on transmission pans and oil pans along with the rear end on my wifes Dakota. Great stuff and will not leak. Runs about $10 a can but it is worth it.
