OK you smart ones, what is the difference between a Dana 80 for a 4x4 and a Dana 80 for a 2x4 in the 3500 series trucks, both my owners manual and the service manual list them as having 2 different oil capacities, the 2x4 is like 3. 2 quarts and the 4x4 is 4. 1 or something close to there.

Remember the only difference is 2x4 or 4x4, it makes no mention of transmissions being auto or manual, the rotation of the moon, or what I had for breakfast:-laf

Soon I will be able to answer this myself as I have a 2x4 Dana 80 going in my 4x4, so far I haven't noticed anything different but I can't wait to get the old one out from under the truck so I can look at them side by side. I can't find anything on the net to explain the difference and when you order parts it doesn't seem to matter what it's from so I can't figure out where the capacity difference comes from.

I don't remember seeing different fill heights list in the manual???? That seems crazy that they would have different fill levels depending on the application but it wouldn't surprise me.
