Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) dana 80 rear axle

My Dana 80 rear axle is making a vibration and squealing noise when under load all u joints are greaseable and I greased them and they all are tight so I jacked the truck up and put it in gear 4th because thats where the noise is worst probably because thats direct drive anyway with my trusty stethoscope against the diff cover it sounds like a tooth is gone off a gear or a bearing is bad it makes a click click noise goina pull the cover and see what I can see.

Just my 2 cents. When you put it back together and add the fluid, make sure that you put in enough additive. Then drive at least 3 figure 8s. That should lubricate the plates.

Pop the rear driveshaft off and articulate all the universals starting with the one closest to the diff. Cant always feel a bad one with driveshaft hooked up

3rd gear is direct drive, not 4th. Also take a look at the carrier bearing.
