Storing diesel fuel. 500 gals ? ?

Who was the first to build turbodiesel?

I've heard both sides of the Stories... ... ... . Which Axle is stronger?

Dana 80 vs. Corp. 14 Bolt

If you were building a Cummins powered Kaiser/Jeep M715/M725... . which axle and why would you want out back?

Looking for a bit of factual data mixed in w/ some spirited opinion.

Any thoughts or proof?

TIA... ... . KEENO:D

The only advantage that the 14 bolt has that I know of is that it has 3 bearings on the pinion shaft. The axle shafts are the same dia. and I think that the stock spine count is the same. One big difference is that the 80's ring gear is 1" larger @ 11. 5". But parts for the 14 bolt are cheaper and easier to find. It's kind of a toss up. Either ought to work fine.

Given the propensity of Dana axles to have constant pinion bearing failures, I'd go three bearing pinion for sure. More axial support, less pinion flex.

I'd go with the 14-bolt due to availability, price, and a Detroit is cheap for it.

But if I had a Dana 80 w/ disk brakes sitting in the back shed, I would hesitate to use it. ;)

14 bolt for sure. I don't think the smaller ring gear is a limiting factor. Extra pinion bearing and cheap detroit locker is well worth it. Also, 14 bolts are dime a dozen.

I took out the Dana80 in my 95 and put in a 14 bolt. Will it hold? I sure as hell hope. Trucks not running yet. I put in aftermarket axles, detroit, and 3. 73's. Main reason i did it was to shed weight, at least 200 pounds.

From what I have heard, the third pinion bearing on the 14 bolt was a band aid fix for a poor original design with 2 pinion bearings being too close together. That being said, I do like the idea of the third bearing. The 14 bolt is also much easier to setup gears in than the Dana 80. The Dana 80 is however a stronger axle plain and simple. Beefier housing, larger carrier, larger ring gear, and I think the shafts are also larger diameter, a true 1. 50" vs the 14 bolt's neck down to 1. 367". The 14 bolt is a great axle, just not quite as strong as an 80.
