My owners manual states that may truck comes from the factory with 90w gear oil. It also states a GL-5 synthetic can be used, but did not state the weight. HELP!

I just looked up the very same thing last night! I found the answer in the towing section. They say that if you tow a lot, they recomend using 75W-140 Synthetic with mopar number $$$1234$$$ (I have a dana 80HB, your findings may be different)

The synthetic is the way to go. Mopar is $19. 00 a quart and you can get Amsoil 75/140 series 2000 for about $12. 00 a quart.
either way the rear end will like the oil. Pete

Hmmmm,

Well I changed out to Amsiol and I am getting a slight shudder when i pull a load and turn. I also added the DC additive so im not sure whats going on. What level of fluid should i have? How do you check it?

Sky, if you have the stock diff. cover then you fill it to within a 1/2 to 1/4 inch below the hole. With the Amsoil you may or may not need the modifier. If you need it then after you put it in go out and do 8 of 9 figure eights to get the modifier into the clutches. Sometimes and I repeat sometimes you will need to put in a second bottle. Pete

Ok, ill try that but really I had it done like 5k miles ago so it should be all worked in. Im gonna check the level and add some more additve i guess. If that dont work I guess off the the dealer #ad
hate them touching my truck. But I have put on 23k since August to I need to get it checked out before warranty is up i guess. Not to mention my sqeekee creekee steering colum.
