Dana80-Mag-hytec

Need to change my rear end fluid. Just ordered a Mag-Hytec cover and want to fill it with Amsoil 75-140. How many quarts will it take with the new cover?? (Dana80)

Well I was going to just tell you to look at their website, where it will tell you how to install, and how much oil to use, but it appears to be down.

If I remember correctly, it is about 6. 5 quarts to refill the differential with the Mag-Hytec cover...

I think that I put in 8 quarts to bring it pretty close to the full mark. Great product (Mag-Hytec that is, Amsoil is OK too).

I also put in 8 quarts. I used Royal Purple synthetic and did not have to add friction modifier or have any limited slip problems .

I put 8 quarts of Torco synthetic in mine two weeks ago, and the level is about 3/4 of the way up between the top (full) mark and the lower (add) mark. FWIW: 7 quarts was at the add mark. When you get about half way between "add" and "full", additional oil changes the level very slowly because the oil begins running down the axle tubes.

"oil running down the axel tubes"---Is this a good thing or a bad thing!!

A little down the tubes is good, it ensures that the wheel bearings have plenty of oil. If the oil level is too high, oil can leak past the axle seals and contaminate the brake linings.



After the truck has been sitting for a while, the stock oil level can starve the bearings until the oil works out to them. The full mark on the Mag-Hytec cover should help get oil to the bearings faster, while keeping the level safe for the seals.

Minimum 6-2/3 qts. Max - 8 qts. I'm right at the bottom line which is the minimum level. I put in 7 quarts.
