Hi guys,

I am getting ready to replace replace a rear wheel seal again. I am wanting to check to make sure I have the right Speedy-sleeve part #, the number I have is 99287. Does that sound right? Also, FYI, I am taking the rear drum brakes off and recycling them. I am going to put a set of EGR disc brakes on the rear. I hope I am making the right decision, but I am fed up with the worthless rear brakes on my truck. Thanks for the part number help.

Jeremy

Jeremy, check prices with egr as I went with tfmmfg.com and was way less expensive.

email me direct and I will call you.

I am not sure of the part #.

Let me know when you go to do the rear disk swap. I wouldn't mind checking out that kit.

Did you get the pm I sent back?

I am already running the rear discs in my Cummins Ramcharger, 2500 miles and love them, this is the best stopping truck I have, stops on a dime, I havent had the slam the anchors yet, but they work great.

My self I haven't had any complaints about the rear brakes on this series of truck. But mine are all new, replaced them when I pulled the rear axle a year or so ago.

Not to long afterwards. I had 7k of trailer and load. Had to do a panic stop with it. Flat spotted my duals. Nothing like hitting the top of a hill at 70 mph and finding a parking lot on the other side. :--)

Update

Philip,

I haven't recieved your PM yet. Thanks for the help guys. I have not yet payed for the EGR so I am interested in Thierry's idea of a less expensive setup. BTW, Thierry, the website doesn't work. I did find out the the speedi-sleeve # is correct and can be gotten at Car Quest. Later,

You know guys, I've tried several times to tell Case500D this very thing, but, he just don't listen good... . the shoes go on the INSIDE of the drum... . geeezzzz... . :D Oo.

Bob

:) Hey case, the part number is correct and the numbers should be 2. 873----2. 879 and don't forget to put some locktite between the sleeve and the axle. Also bud, when you cut the lip of the sleeve, put some electrical tape around the surface of the sleeve in case murphys law happens. Tim

I've got a plan!

Okay, here is the latest scoop that I have. I talked to a fellow TDR member last night and am still going with tthe EGR brakes due to ease of installation and cost. It will take a couple of weeks for everything to get paid for and the parts to get here. I will let everyone know how it turns out (pictures included).

Bob, thanks for helping me figure out the problem. I guess throwing the concrete block out the window for an anchor won't have to be done any more:D People at stoplights sure hate it when you throw the anchor through their windshieldOo.

Tim1, I know Murphy way too well, so I appreciate the hint about the electrical tape.

Well here it goes, it is only money, but the 1st gen truck is worth it.

The check is in the mail

Well, the check is in the mail. I should have the brake kit in 10 to 12 days. I am replacing the wheel bearings, axle nuts, and oil seals. I hope I can talk the boss into a day off to get the change done. I can't wait Oo. Oo. Oo.

Hi Rick,

I really enjoyed looking at the pictures of your truck being repainted. Want to do mine?:D I am looking foreward to seeing how you like the brake upgrade. I wish it would rain here as I need to get the alfalfa that I planted out of the ground. Good luck!
