Amber Alert: Killer/Kidnapper on the loose in or around Georgia

Rob,

Like Merryman said, there are three "grades" of White boots. All are made by the same company. Hathorne are the lowest grade, but are still excellent quality. They are NOT rebuildable though. I don't remember if the Buffalo's are rebuildable or not, but memory is leaning towards not rebuildable. The White's are the top of the line and are completely rebuildable, usually for about half the price of new ones.

You can have them custom fit your fit, or buy off the shelf. I bought some 10" packers off the shelf for $320. They are a little heavy, but I'm on the second sole heading towards a third and they are wearing great. I'll get seven or eight years out of these before they need rebuilt. Keep them clean and greased well and they'll treat your feet well.

I've been wearing my pair of whites for the last 4 years and just had them resoled. I've worn out about 10 pairs of leather laces on them, and they are about as comfortable as you can get. Mine are the logger boots with the deep cleats, great for the farm, bad for the carpet... . I especially liked the fact that they custom match up the pair of boots with your actuall size as I wear 14 AAA in size, very hard to find at the run of the mill store and most brands don't go narrow enough for me.

Morph.

If you guys have noticed the Danner warranty has gone from 2yrs to 1yr to 6 months and back up to 1yr recently. All of this happened in the course of about 5years. The last pair I bought leaked in a little over a year and low and behold the warranty at the time was 6 months  . The most recent set of boots I bought were Cabelas brand and they just dont compare to the old Danners. A friend of mine just bought a set of Irish Setters that look like the old Danners and he has been extremely happy with them so I will probably try a set for my next boot purchase. I agree with some of the others, Whites are just to heavy.

Morphious,

Try 550 cord (heavy parachute cord) for your boot laces instead of the normal leather laces. It last 5+x longer than any other thing I've tried.

New Danner Boot customer here.

Well here's part of my new boot story. First, my dumbass didn't search THIS site for boot information. I've done search after search on the WWW trying to find "USA" boots and it's not easy to find them.

I started by ordering some "made in Italy" Dunhams, they got here "made in China" and I sent them back.

Finally heard about Danner (local TDR guy has a pair on second sole) and picked out a pair--yes you have to watch closely to find the "Made in USA" spec. Redwing was going to be my next choice. (Irish Setter is an import line for Redwing).

Since then I've found a German bootmaker and another USA maker to check out. I'm going to look at some of the US lines brought up here. I don't have to have "USA" but refuse to wear "China" anymore.

Best prices I've found were at New England Shoe Outlet and Bootbay. The problem with Bootbay is #1 they didn't answer the phone, #2 I have to pay TN sales tax--almost 10%. I got mine from NESO (Quanitco, VA--but mine were drop shipped from direct from Danner. )

Looking forward to many years wear on this pair of Danners (style #33000). Want some Danner "hunting" boots, but they'll have to put a different sole on them. Me no bob.

I have a custom pair of Wesco Packer boots that I have had for three years now. The only other footwear I own is a pair of Birkenstocks. The Wescos were well worth the $360 to have them made. I wear a size 12. 5 A width, so all normal boots were way too wide for my foot, and I would just slide forward in them and always get infected toes from cramming my toes into the end of the boots. anyway two sets of soles and three heals later I still love my Wesco's. If you choose to buy some I strongly suggest you spend the few extra dollars and get custom made. They trace your feet on paper, and measure your feet in several places with a cloth tape, then they make a custom last to build your boots on. Anyway after your first order they keep your last so that next time they just pull out your old lasts and go to work.

Happy feet

This fall I bought a pair of Chippewa welington boots for dress boots for work, made in USA, great boots. then a couple weeks later I bought a set of Chippewa loggers, also look like great boots, when I got home I saw that made in china sticker on them, but they seem so well made so I kept them.

Where was I when this thread came out?

I vote for Whites boots or Nicks boots, both handmade and rebuidable for years of use. Both made in the US.

I may get flamed here but I try to buy US and Canadian first, then German (my knives and a few of my Sigs), Scandinavian. Then I head to other parts of the world.

Oops!!! $hi*, my truck is made in Mexico.

And they (China) want a Free Trade Agreement with us? Dang near 95% of our stuff is made there now. What are they going to do with it, if they get it? Build our CTDs there too? Let me get off here before my blood starts boiling.

On a related note, my dad and I had some really warm Rockys a few years back, so when they wore out, we got another pair. You guessed it, quality went in the toilet and now I know why. &*^%*&#*^@$#$!!!!!
