Dash lights flashing

Can anyone tell me what happened when I accidently held my trip-ometer reset button in while at the same time turning the key to the run position. When I did this, all the instrument needles started swinging back and forth and all the lights in the instrument panel were flashing. It stopped after about 10 to 15 seconds and everything went back to normal. I asked my service writer about it and all I got the "deer in the head lights" look! I must not have hurt anything since the truck is running normally, just curious.

Good to know…so does a DTC come up if there IS a dash cluster issue?? or how does one tell if there is a problem??
