Dash pod VS pillar pod for gauges?

Who has the autometer dash pod for gauges - do you like it?



Who has the full pillar pod for the gauges - do you like it?



When using the pillar pod, do you find the lights in the gauges to be distracting when driving at night?

I have mine on the pillar, like them there and they do not distract me at all.

I got the full pillar with tweeter and ISSPRO gauges {3 ea. } and like them there. The light is not distracting at night and vision is no more impared than the A pillar already is.

I have my gauges on the A pillar. The lights do not distract me. They are dimmable with your dash lights.

I've had both

On my last truck I had the A-pillar gauge pod, which I liked fine, and had the silver-faced Autometers. These were distracting at night.



I have the dash pod now, which I like better, it is not distracting, however I have the sport comp gauges now with black background.



The dash pod involves more work to hook up when it comes to routing the wiring, which I tucked in the channel between the windshield and dash. I then run it through a notch in the back of the housing.

I have the triple A Pillar pod. It is not distracting at all, my lights are dimmable but there has never been a need to do that for me. Also, with a dash pod you will be cooking your gauges with the sun on them all the time. I have never heard of a failure from it, but as we all know, intense heat is not good for anything.

Vaughn, do you think the silver faced guages are too bright at night, is that why you changed? Also where did you run the wires after they were in the channel to get them below the dash?

I have both (as I've run out of room) and definitely prefer the dash pod. You can glance at the pointers without your eyes leaving the road. If you go for digital gauges, the A-pillar might be better for reading the numbers.

The only down side I see to the pillar mount, is it makes the whole A pillar slightly wider then it already is. And it is pretty wide. Otherwise they are not distracting at all at night.



Dash pods seem a bit dated to me, like a '60's or '70's add-on after thought. But whatever floats your boat.

Have both... Auto Meter all the way. All the guages are black faced except EGT, which is silver. I love them both, they are not distracting at all (at least to me). Auto Meter provides bulb covers with each guage which allow to change the color of the light, but they also dim a little, too. Undimmed lights might be annoying at night. Also, hook the light wiring into the dimmer circuit, that way you have even more control on the brightness. As for the sun and heat effect, it depends on guage quality. If you stick with Auto Meter Sport Comp or Pro Comp series, forget it - they are designed to handle a heck of a lot more severe racing environments than these trucks will ever see. I've been using Auto Meter exclusively for over 15 years in both race cars and street vehicles (in the Southwest deserts), and never had a guage failure (when using their better lines). Can't speak for any other brand.

Actually OILBRNR, it is the Pillar Pod that everyone can tell is the add-on (maybe because so many hondas have them around here). Most people think that the dash pod was installed by the factory.

I have the 3 gauge pod on the a-pillar, they are only distracting because it's fun to see whats going on as you're driving. I don't think vision is affected at all. As far as dash vs a-pillar you are either glancing left or glancing down to read the gauges, same difference to me.



My gauge lights are hooked to the dimmer switch but since we drive all night long sometimes I'm thinking an extra switch to turn the gauge lights off might come in handy, simple and cheap anyway so what the heck.

Pillar, the only way to go. The lights are dim & they can be seen by others.
