Dash Pods revisited

Is anyone in TDR-land, (especially vendors), familiar enough with the 1st and 2nd generation Autometer dash pods to determine if the 1st Gen. pod, which seems to be in abundant supplies, can be modified, cut, filed, bent, stapled, or otherwise mutilated to fit the elusive 2nd Gen. dash?





This question is raised due to the inability of Autometer to supply sufficient inventory to meet the market demand. :-{} #@$%!



I have gauges in hand, and now I'm waiting for some corporate "bean-counter" to realize that there is no more stock on the shelf.

I can't help you ,but I would like to know how long it could possibly take to run a few skids of dash pods, I mean sheeesh, their little plastic things, not nuclear subs. I got tired of waitin', I ended up ordering the other dash pod, the one that sits on the left side of the bezel.

Shovelhead:



You can use a "Dremel" Tool to modify those dash

pods you speak of and make them fit. The bottom

plastic plate is a little different but the gauge "pod"

is the same on all of them.



BTW, "Scheid Diesel" can get you the dash pod

that sits to the left side of the dash. I know they

have them in stock as my son just ordered one.

Here's what I did. Got a contour gauge, those little wire thingys, and got the fit at the top of my dash. 1/2 in from the front edge. Took that and marked the pod on both sides ,took the dremel, and went to work. After I got the correct fit I took 2 small blocks of wood and glued them about 1/8-5/32 ins up from the lottom of the pod. I contoured the wood to fit the pod also. Then the "velcro". I put the wirey part on the wood and the felt part on the dash. With 3 gauges in there and the wire I have yet to have the pod move at all. Also I drove around for 3 weeks before I drilled the hole for the wire to see if it would be sight problem. Now the gauges are in with no trouble at all. They go well with the 2 on the A pillar.



It worked for me. I t may work for you too.

Preston kinda touched on what I was wondering.

Were the two models of pods so different that modifying the one to fit the other would be an enormous task?



Sounds like until Autometer pulls it's corporate head outta it's corporate ***, that's gonna be the way to go.

I've seen a couple references in this thread about a dash pod that sits to the left of the bezel. Which pod is this? The only dash pod I am familiar with is the Autometer that sits in the center by the defroster vents.



Does anyone have a pic of this other pod? Right now I'm planning on using a couple of bullet mounts for my gauges, but I wanted to check this out first.

Dash Pod

I too ordered the Dash Pod from Auto meter, I have been waiting since Dec 01.

On the 27th of March I ordered a Dash Pod from US Gear SKU # USG3DASH4. It should be here next week.

I don't think I will be buying any AM products if this is a sign of how they operate.



The way I look at it is they are providing me a service for a price, I paid the price and thats as far as it got.
