I have seen mentioned here on the TDR before about a data plate that is supposed to be attached to the radiator support on the right front. I have looked for mine before, but never was able to locate it, thought I must be dense or something. Tonight, I was looking under the hood of a new gasser that a friend just bought (he wanted a diesel, but just could not afford it). Lo and behold there is a data plate in plain view. I immediately popped the hood on mine (both 2001's) and there is two pre drilled holes for the plate to mount to, but no plate.

QUESTION

Is there a possible alternative mounting spot? Anybody else with an 01' missing their data plate?

I know this does not affect the truck, but just curious, mostly for future reference as to the options on the truck, might be handy in the future as the memory dims.

Shelby

Are you referring to the black data plate mounted 90 degrees from horizontal, at the end of the A/C condensor on the passenger side?

It should be there. That is the one that gives the engine configuration, (ETH/ETC) and a few other odds and ends like paint color, etc. There is not an alternative mounting location to my knowledge.

Yep guys, we are all thinking of the same plate, and NOPE, I do not have one. On my buddies white gasser, the plate was body color, white.

Could the dealer retrofit one of these?

Shelby

Shelby... you might go down to the dealer and talk to him about this. I have never read where anyone has gotten a new plate, but I have read about guys going to the dealer, and having them give you a computer printout of all of the options, codes, etc that came on your rig.

I can't get this search thing to work for me or I would post a link to the other threads... they have had several to use as reference when you talk to the dealer.

Rob is right. The factory isn't going to restamp any plates for you. Instead,go to the service department and tell them you need to get a print-out of your build sheet. the print-out is nice because it gives a description along with the codes.

When I was shopping for used trucks,I'd go to the dealer and get a list to find out what equipment it had.

Shelby, I said "black" plate as my Ram is black... I guess I should have been more specific in saying body color.

Maybe they don't include the plate on cab and chassis Rams. Ya think?

Cab & Chassis??

John,

I dunno, mine was a normal pickup, before I had the bed removed. Although that is a good theory, mine was not a cab & chassis.

It was a special order "fleet" truck, but I still would of thought the plate would be there.

I am going to talk to the local dealer today and see what they have to say.

Seriously It's under the Carpet under the passenger seat attached to the main cab structural support beam!!

My data plate is also on the passenger floorboard, but all I had to do to view it was remove the trim at the edge of the floor covering and the kick panel ( 6 screws I think ) and peel back the the insulation and there it was just in front of the seat.

The seat did not have to be removed.

Mine came from the St. Louis plant , maybe they like to hide the plates over there.

MrC,

Yep maybee mine was an ... . oops  It was close to there but Crookafied like it moved before the rivets were shot in? even so I am not nuts for finding it there.

Mine was also "crookafied" the dude musta been reachin for a cold one when he shot the rivits in. I dont plan on ever settin eyes on the thing again,I decoded the whole thing with the service manual while it pants were around it's ankles ( just to make sure I got what I ordered ). DC can be so dependable.

Question for those of you that have observed the under seat plate

Those of you that are mentioning finding the plate under the seat, did you also have a plate on the radiator support, or was the under seat/carpet one the only plate? Any pattern here on build location? Mine was built in St. Louis.

Shelby

Thanks TM. I have the perfect little holes too. I know what options I have, since I ordered this truck and have all of the paper work, so am not going to start pulling up carpet just yet.

Shelby

Pretty sure they only stamp 1 data plate. I also ordered mine but the salesman swore you could only get the Ltd. slip diff with the 4. 10 ratio , I wanted the 3. 54's and wanted to make sure the data plate matched my wishes. ( Don't ya just hate it when you know more about the product than the salesman  . )
