The post database index crashed today around 5:20pm eastern time. I've repaired the index at this point but I need you guys to keep an eye out for any problems. If you run into any strange results on the forums let me know. Our backup is fully functional and I can roll back to that if necessary but don't think I'll need to do that.

Thanks,

Steve

I did notice the email notificitions seem to be down, A few threads I have subscribed to have been posted to but no emails...

FWIW

Steve,

Not sure if this is related, but a few times this week when I get online, the homepage welcomes me back as Jeff_K (not my username, and NO, Jeff_K does not use this computer). I have to log him out and relog in with my username. Is this a problem with cookies??

Thanks

Are you at work when that happens? That has happened a number of times is when someone is logging in at work where their network is on a proxy server. The problem is that on some of those systems the cookies are saved at the server and therefore everyone in that company is running on the same set of cookies. So if anyone else on that network goes to the site they'll be logged in as the other guy. That happens with Cummins employee's for one. There's nothing we can do on this end about that btw.

Don't sweat the crashes on our end, we all know you work hard at keeping it going for us being up nights ect... ... you just spooled us Steve :)

Steve I didn't notice anything. Overall the site has really been running great for me. I probably wasn't on at the time.

Steve,

Thanks, I figured it had to do with the work computers (BP Exploration) I've been on. The only strange thing is, I looked up Jeff_K, and from his profile I dont see anyway he could be on the same network. Maybe, but not likely.

Anyways, Thanks for the hard work you do keeping things running!!

Tryed a couple searches that didn't come up with anything, seems something to do with double words.

Thanks Steve. Seems to be when I tryed using numbers in the search, as it worked with multiple words when I didn't use numbers. Searches were 913 camshaft, 215 camshaft, 913 plunger, 215 plunger. :) I think something should have came up as i've read posts tonight using those words, just used a broader search instead.

Thanks!

hi steve ,thank for all your work to keep the site running. i have a problem and dont know if it has anything to do with the crash. i tried to renew my subscription and cant get it to work. im in canada and i clicked the international 43. 00 . cart showed it ok. when i clicked on go to checkout, it said cart is empty. i also tried it as a new supscriber . still no luck. im out of ideas.

Nothing to do with the crash. The subscription stuff is on a completely seperate server for security reasons. I don't do anything with that server. I forwarded your previous post about it to Robin who handles that - I'm sure she'll get back to you soon.

Definately something up with the search. I'll take it down in a couple hours and check it out. Can't do anything with it while the site is up.
