Daughter buying a 2004--is the price good?

My daughter is looking at a 2004, basically identical to the one in my sig only a year newer, 42,000 miles. Dealer is asking ~$28,000. Is this a good price? What would a new one go for? Thanks for your help, Jeff

I've seen ads for new '05 SLT Quad Cab Diesel 4x4s for $28,970 here in Denver. I think 28k for a used one is a little high depending on how it's equipped. The prices new ones are selling for is hurting the demand for used... err, "pre-owned" ones IMO.

2004 or 2004. 5? The CTD 600 did not come out till 2004. 5. Whether the 600 is good or bad is up for debate, but all the flamming for the 600/610 seems to have died away for now. I agree that $28K is too much for a truck with 42k on it. Get a better deal or stay away from dealers.

I agree with the guys above. With employee discounts and rebates, new ones can be had in the $32 to $34k range. Prolly under $25 to $26k before it would be worth it to me.

Location, location, location. Trucks are dang near like real estate a little more info might help. In my area that could be a dang good price. In others you might find it to be high.

I just did a search and wanted to locate a 3500. There are very few anywhere! The ones that are out there are drastically overpriced, with the thought that everyone will flock into the dealer when the ugly 06 comes out at an even higher price. There are 2500's EVERYWHERE and can be had for a song. Just see what happens when you try to buy a 3500 4x4. . Employee discount? Yeah, right! They get ya one way or another! They took away the good rebates and threw everyone a carrot and tried to make you think you are getting a killer deal... NOT!

I know for a fact that the GM employee discount that the public is being offered is NOT the same as the REAL employee discount. The way it REALLY works is, you go in, make your best deal, rebates included and when all is well and done, you flip out the letter from GM that gives you several thousand more off the already great price. The latest BS that all the mfrg's are trying to sell everyone on the fact that they are getting a killer deal when they are actually getting the same basic deal that they would get if you were Joe Shmoe off the street and did a 2 hour grind on them.

Way too high. Check it out on NADA and then reduce it by 4K due to employee discounts and high mileage.

on to the subject at hand, i dont see that as a bad price. especialy if it is taken care of and has a few options to it.

That is just an advertising ploy. You actually got a better deal with the rebates and an hour of haggeling on the last day of the month. If the truck drives in a straight line and stops the same, no rattles (motor excluded) and she likes the truck, make an offer and go for it. Lately, here in my part of the country, diesels are getting rare as most people have the same idea as I do. I feel that it is just a matter of time before the truckers go on strike and all the grocery stores are bare! I welcome that day! a week or 2 of that and my gues is we will see $1. 99 a gallon diesel or cheaper very soon. This can't keep up much longer or the trucking industry will go boobs up!

glad you got rid of your 2nd gen and someone that appricates it will own it.

Of course a stock 600 will beat my stock 12v. Nothing to prove there. Now, with a few mods, I'll have your cash in my pocket. But I'll still beat you in longevity and simplicity everyday!

Bought my 2004 4wd lwb qc 6spd in december-28th me thinks-2004. Truck had 400 miles on it-financed 31k. You decide. Good Luck!

Its all a matter of opinion.

Since I have one and probably am more bias, I like the 305/555 better. Almost as much power as the 600 and alot less EPA equipment and a cooler running 2 point injection engine. The main reason they changed was that they had to meet new emission standards.



Then again if I had a 600, I'd say it was better. :-laf
