Jamboree 3, Dave Smith Dodge, I hope you read this! :--)







I have to say, I was there, I wasn't in the Show-N-Shine, however I have to agree with the comments made on the Northwest Bombers site!



We buy $35,000+ truck and this is the way we are treated! They did not even give us a hamburger! That's right NO BBQ!

Where was the Beer Garden????? Hell, everyone is right. This was my first gettogether. I don't exactly know what was expected, but I don't think I got it. I had to ask for coffee on Saturday morning. They, Dave Smith, have a big outside built-in BBQ outside of the main showroom with a Soda Fountain cart. Was there any soda's? NO! Did they lite of the BBQ as one of their staff told me they were gonna do? NO! Do they want to sell you a fuel filter (not installed) for $30? YES! What was the point. The drive there, CoeurDeLene (or however your spell it) was beautiful tho. Did I meet some interesting people and get some good information? YES. I won't go again! The NW Bombers had it exactly right. And the contest must have been fixed. I saw the entries. OH Well, live and learn.

Jamboree

Well, I was there also ( over 800 miles round trip). Guess I was spoiled by the Timberline (now defunct) Jamboree last year and the year before. It was well organized: show-n-shine, seminars on the hour, several vendors, large audience Q&A session, lots of door prizes, and yes, great free BBQ. All the aforementioned events were lacking at the Dave Smith Jamboree. On the positive side, I saw some great customized trucks, met a few folks, and learned some important info from a couple of vendors. The concet was a good idea (the wife and I didn't stay)but a little pricey. Would I go again? Only if I were on my way passing by.

point of clarification

Teacher, I wasn't going to comment on this thread or any other like it on either the NW BOMBer BB or the TDR BB, simply because I was too close to all of this and did not think it appropriate to interject my opinions/observations.



However, I would like to point out that the reason the Timberline Show-N-Shine contests ran so well, were very well prepared, and very well ran, were due to the extensive efforts of both Dave and Diana Perea. Dave, owning and competing with his AWESME '98, National show winning 12v powered Ram, had gained the knowledge required to undertake such a task and make it look easy to even seasoned participants. Additionally, the owner of Timberline Dodge deserves a vote of thanks as well, having the insight to procure the required experts to make the whole process run smoothly and fairly.



I just wish they had had the Timberline rally again this summer. Anyway, a big two thumbs up to the owner of Timberline Dodge for putting on a first class event and bankrolling the entire thing (including a first class BBQ)! And another big two thumbs up to Dave and Diana Perea for all their unselfish effort to make the whole Timberline Show-N-Shine event happen (especially since all they had to do is enter their own Ram and win the Show-N-Shine competition hands down)!





Also, I would like to add that the Grand Funk Railroad concert in Kellogg, ID this last Saturday night was great! Although not a lot of people attended, I was fortunate enough to hear this truly great band play most of their awesome tunes of the past. Two thumbs up to Grand Funk as well!



Only one gripe about the concert though...



I really wished they had properly controlled the gain, as the bass was clipping pretty good throughout most of the really rockin' tunes. Oh well, can't have everything I guess. However, I was fortunate enough to have two NW BOMBer friends that I went to the concert with (one even bought me the concert ticket!) And isn't that what it's all about, friends? Good friends, good tunes, heck, it doesn't get any better than that!

Thanks for a different slant on the topic. Well said.

Don't wish to give the wrong impression about my attitude toward the jamboree. It was a good idea. It served a purpose. It connected new and old friends, and it did educate a few(including this diesel novice). I was just a little disappointed.

Now on a more "positive note. "

I for one would be more than willing to pay somekind of "entrance, participation or cover charge fee" for such future events. Perhaps more local or regional TDR chapters would be willing assist a dealership or commercial entity in the planning and execution of a jamboree. If no one comes forward to volunteer leadership, maybe somekind of donation or collection of funds can pay for an organizer.

If these thoughts stir some further ideas out there, please share them with us.

How about a survey on future Jamborees?? Any takers?
