Hello all,

I am wandering if it is possible to turn on the DRL. I have to take my truck to the dealer for a few minor things and wanted to know if this is possible. I have read that you can change the country code to canada but someone said that you didn't have to do that.

any help.

Thanks

Rick Oo.

I have 2 trucks... 04 and a 05 plus my boy has an 04. 5... we had them turned at the dealer at time of delivery... . it was free... .

I have added the brite box to the 05 from Geno's... . and we had to switch the DRL from high beam to low beam... . when the DRL are set to high beam they burn out the control chip in the brite box... .

Jim,

Thanks for the reply. How is it turned on? I asked the dealer and he said he didn't know how to turn them on. I bet if I was there I would have gotten the deer in the headlight look.

Thanks

Rick

under the fcm menu of the drb you can select dtr and enable it, the high low beam select is made by either selecting canada or u. s. as Canada requires high beam and U. S. requires low beam... Takes about 1 minute to do it.

I had Carson Dodge in Carson City, Nevada turn mine on. Costs $45.

They will not turn on if the Parking bRake is on.

no offense, but it sounds like you got ripped off !

I tried to have it done on an '06 and it appears it can't be done. Anyone know any different on the new ones??? I would love to have this option but it did not show up on the STAR menu even when we changed it to Canadian...

Thanks for trying Tomeygun,

Troy

On the 06 you have to use the StarScan for diagnosis. The software is not set up for turning it on. The factory rep said the reason for not having the option was it was illegal in some states to turn them on, so to keep from getting sued, DC does not allow it in the scan tool any longer. Sounded a bit strange, but with all the sue happy attorneys out there, it is probably true.

I wonder why it is that most if not all GM car and trucks have DRL's. If it illegal in some states, why doesn't GM get sued for them? I would bet that in a few years all new car and trucks will have to have them. Oregon and Washington WANT you to turn on your headlights on in safety zones, and more and more OTR trucks have signs "our lights are on for safety"

I think them telling you that is just BS

Could you please explain to a novice what fcm and drb and dtr mean and where to find these wonderful settings? I have a 2005 made about march this year and need to set the daytime lights. I am in canada at the moment.

The DRB is a Factory Scan tool that you use to access the FCM (Forward Control Module) in the vehicle. Using the tool you can turn on the DTR (Daytime Running Lamps)

You want them on? I was overjoyed when I found I didnt' have to figure out how to disable them. If I want my lights on I have a nice manual method of doing it.

Canadian Law requires them. With lights off, if I forget to turn them on, I am inviting unwelcome attention. With all the snow and mud etc the license plate from Idaho may be missed ... its hassel prevention.

Thanks a lot. I will check with a local dealer to see what can be done here.

I would like to get mine turned on some day with the new "wipers on = lights on" law plus added visibility to others can't hurt.

Another California Gotcha law

I bet you are from California. I returned to California after a five month trip and heard about this new law requiring your lights be on when the windshield wipers are on. I think it is a good law but also more harassment from the CHP.

Yep, thats me. I am getting better at turning on the lamps but would like a no brainer approach for this particular new law. Sometimes its pretty bright out while raining.

I wonder if the wiper relay could be jumpered over to the lamp relay?? DRL's make the most sense.
