Where to hook up power and lights?

I have the day time running lights. Does anyone know how I can disconnect them. Like to have my truck lights out when driving around hunting. It is a 1999 by the way.

Not sure how you got them as I thought that they were only going to the Canadian market. Anyway, I believe that you need to just pull out a relay in the power distribution center.

i have a 99 without dtrl. and would like them. . under the abs module and the brake master cylinder is a small block screwed to the inner fender. the plug has three wires in it. unplug this block and unscrew the block and send it to me..... i use my lights to shine deer. i don't waste money buying a high powered spot. some times when i drink to much i forget to turn on the lights. this may help... ... .

i'm just joking about the deer and drink... ..... but they go together at camp

To simply get rid of daytime running lights you can push down on the e-brake one click... the e-brake light will come on but the daytime running lights will go out. Not really a disconnect as you requested but a simple way of driving with the lights off... . Good luck

DTRL

I tried to add DTRL to my new '01. There was no connection for the module on my USA bound truck. The connection is near the brake master cylinder on the left fender well. For '01 it had 8 wires plugged in. the module is about the size of a pack of cigarettes and should be simple to unplug. Wish I could add to mine--my ins co gives a discount for DTRL. I tried an after market unit but never could get it to work... ... ... . :(

I bought my truck in 2000. I think it came from Canada. That is why I think it came with day time running lights. Got it from a wholesaler in Kalispell. It had about 26,000 miles on it when I got it. Thanks for the help.

If you have DRL,you can simply unplug the module located on the drivers side inner fender, and they will no longer work, and headlamp operation is unaffected. We have seen a few modules die on some of our trucks when connecting and disconnecting our snowplows. You could also run a toggle switch from ground to the parking brake switch which will turn them off when you wish (although the brake light will stay on).

Which brings up another point. If you have DRL (and even if you don't,it won't hurt),when connecting or removing a snowplow with the type of headlamps which switch over automatically, always make sure that the truck is OFF,and the headlamps are OFF. We have seen three damaged by the voltage spike when this happens. All of them fried the DRL module, causing the highbeam indicator to stay lit,and the headlights would stay on even after they, and the truck, was shut off.

If you don't have DRL,but would like to,to get your insurance discount, you can just wire up a relay to turn on the lowbeams (or some people use the park lamps\fog lamps) when the ignition is in the run position. We have done this on our older GM plow trucks to get a discount. We connected the relay to the choke wire (fed via oil psi switch),so they only worked if the truck was running). I'm sure you could rig this up on a cummins as well.
