We've been told that we're saving energy by moving DST 3 weeks earlier.

If DST saves so much energy that it's worth it to move it 3 weeks earlier in the year, then why don't we make the whole year DST and save a TON of energy?

Brief article about it.

I just don't understand it. Back in the 70's, during the first "energy crisis", they switched to DST in the winter to save fuel and it didn't work.

It wound up costing millions of dollars in extra energy costs. Businesses had to heat their buildings an extra hour each day.

Think about it... If you reduce your heat setting at night to save money, you have to bring it back up about an hour before everyone comes to work. With DST, you have to start heating an hour earlier. So now you're increasing your energy demands during what is typically the coldest part of the day.

The government has this stupid habit of making the same mistakes over and over.

I'd rather them leave it as it is now. I like the longer daylight hours for working on the farm after I get home from my day job. I can't stand the winter time schedule.

WOW - back up the train!!!!!!!!

THink about this - the DAY isn't any longer - it now doesn't become 25 HOURS long - there are NO MORE EXTRA HOURS per day - just a better distribution of daylight... ... ...

Duh! If you bring your heat up an hour earlier, you also turn it down an hour earlier.

Actually, you can probably turn it down more than an hour earlier, since you now have the extra radiant heat of the sun helping to keep things warm, thanks to DST. Sounds like energy savings to me, if not, it's at least a break even situation.

The down side? I'm typing this at 10 pm and should have been in bed at least an hour ago! (I work early morning hours).

Regardless of how the clock is set, there are still the same many hours of daylight either way. I prefer it the way it now is and wish there were no changing constantly. Set it one way and LEAVE it. It is a hassle and senseless.

For businesses, they are bringing the heat up when it is light, not dark. That may be cheaper. They might to bring it down earlier.

School children are now out and about when it is darker than it was before. This is less safe and conversely, the schools are heating up in the dark.

Also, sine we are up to go to work and get kisd to school, are we not in an adverse heating cycle?

Just food for thougt.

I never understood it. To me, the only difference is the lights are on 1 hour more in the morning, and 1 hour less at nite. (or vice versa!)

I am paying the freaking electric bill let me use it when ever I want too and leave the d**m time alone... ... ... ... ... . just another case where environmentalist wackos are using government and the courts to force everyone to follow their lead. Government at it worst.

So Congress back in 1918 decided that in 2007 they would add 4 weeks to daylight savings time... ... ... ... ... d**m public schools failed me again:-laf

I vote DST , all the time !

there`s too much "clock touching"... ... ...

Im getting tired of changing the clock in the CTD and everything in the house,2x a year !

No. Congress decided back in 1918 to institute DST. The reason was pretty much the same though. It was to help alleviate wartime coal shortages (enviromentalist wackos I guess). What's the difference if they add 4 weeks? Your arguement seems to be against DST, period. Not adding four weeks.

"What's the difference if they add 4 weeks?"

I don't know, what's the difference if tommorrow they decide you can't turn your lights on after 6:00 PM or that that you must drive a vehicle that wieghs less than 500 lbs? It's all a form of government control that is being manipulated by special interests most of whom have done at least as much damage, as good.

I am against government being used by the few to control the individual right to choice.
