Daytime Driving Lights

I have a 2006 2500 Ram and would like to have the daytime driving light option enabled on my truck. Went to the local dealership, they said "no, it can't be done. " I have recently read that the dealership can enable it. Has anyone had this done? And if so, do you know what the dealership did or do you have a dealership name and phone # so I can call them and get a discription for my dealer? Thanks for your help.

I have a 2007 3500 and would also like to cause the lights to turn on during the daytime. Let me know when and if you get a posssitive answer.

Yes they can be turned on by the dealer. They need to change COUNTRY with their scan tool like to Canada and go through the acc. section I believe and ENABLE them. They can always call STAR their tech assistance line and they will tell them how. Most all if not ALL of Chrysler products have had this ability since 2000 I think.

You can enable it with the drb 3 scan tool. I believe it is under Customer Preferences or in the engine control module. Not exactly sure but I know it is in there. I would find another dealer.

I went into my local dealer and requested daytime running light's turned on at same time I was haveing my oil changed service dept said no problem when I picked up truck it said light's would come on as soon as truck was put into gear . ask dealer I am sure they will help you .

Unfortunately starting in 06 with CAN BUS system it can not be done by the dealer. 05 and earlier was hit or miss when it came to changing the country code and enabling the lights. My 04 and 05 took some playing around to get them to turn on.

Sag2. Simplysmn posted that he had his 08 turned on while getting a oil change at the dealer. I could have sworn I also read of other 06/07/07. 5 having them turned on.

I know it can be done on the 2008s. I had the DRL turned on by my dealer before I even picked the truck up.

On another site same discussion going more less going on. They have been turned on 05/06 also. Some with their own downloaders that are capeable and the newer trucks with a dealer StarsScan tool.

I'm looking at importing an '03 from the US and need DRL to pass safety. Would a smarty be able to trun them on for me? It would be a good way to get the purchase past the Mrs.

The StarScan needs only select the country code of Canada and the DRL will follow. however there are some other features which you not like as it is also part of the regulations. It would be nice if some individual would document the feature rich available options as it seem to solve many issues brought up here and other forums. Cummins and Chrysler have done a very nice job in this area so the truck can be built in Mexico and shipped to anywhere in the world and conform to the destination country's regulations by changing the software options with the StarScan. HOWEVER not all dealers have the knowledge or interest in these abilities and only look at it as another means to make money or worse attempt to modify the wiring to provide changes. IMHO

It's ironic that when we Canadians import a vehicle from the US we "have" to have DRL installed/activated, but when two different set of friends moved back to the US they had to have their DRL deactivated. Both countries cited safety as the reason??? We have had DL standard since 91. Shadrach

Had DRL and Fast Idle enabled by Carson Dodge. No problem and they work great. At first I didn't think the DRL were on, started truck and no DRL. Put in gear and bam, lights.

I think it is a great way to go. It deffinetly is a safety asset. I had I guy ask me today if the tail lights are also on. I didn't know what to answer him as I have to be in the truck when it is in drive. :-laf
