Daytime running lights module?

I just bought an 03 3500 from Texas, and imported it into Canada. I need to get a vehicle inspection before I can insure it. Canadian laws require daytime running lights, and the U. S. trucks don't have them. Any idea where the module plugs in? My dad has a local 03 3500, but I couldn't find it on his truck either. Thanks,

it is my understanding that there is no module - just a computer flash update/upgrade to DRL - which probably means finding a dealership...

I believe the dealer enables this feature with the DRB-III. No additional HW. In the US some dealers will do it some won't, but for Canada I'm sure any dealer will do it. Good luck. BC must be getting nice, if it's still in Texas I'll drive it up there :>).

I have the wiring diagram for the 94-98 headlight system and it shows a separate DRL module (in engine compartment in left inner fender panel) for those trucks with DRL.



The bad news is that the diagram for trucks without DRL does not show any of the wiring for the module, so I do not think you can buy a module and then plug it it to enable DRL's - no harness at left inner fender panel.



However, it would be simple for you to make your own DRL circuit with a couple of relays. This DRL circuit would turn on the lows with ignition (at full intensity and turn off when you parked with the emergency brake on - just like the factory system). Call me if you would like me to draw and then fax a wiring diagram.



At this point, the only difference would be that the lows would illuminate at full intensity rather than at reduced brightness. Might want to check if local laws require reduced intensity. If they don't it is good for you since running halogen bulbs without full voltage kills them prematurely.

Thanks Frank, Pete,Jhardwick and Sag2. I hope you guys are right. That would sure save me a major P. I. T. A. I thought I would have to splice into a bunch of wires to make it work. I looked all over for a spare plug to plug the running light module into, but there was none.

Pete, I don't know if you were seriuos or not, but that was one heck of a nice offer. I just drove the truck back last week. It was a long but nice drive (3,000 miles in 3-1/2 days!!) I was surprised to see how green Texas was. I expected a lot more brown desert. The roads were also a lot better than I was used to in the Western States.

Thanks Joel, I know which wiring harness you are talking about. I had a '96 and the module plugged in on the drivers side firewall. I was looking for something similar, but no such luck. The '03 up is completely different.

You guys reminded me of what a good investment the TDR membership is.

Since 2000 DRL's are turned on with a DRB. Takes just a few minutes. All D. C. products.

Sorry guys, I posted about a 96 truck (thought he put his post in the incorrect forum) as I was looking at the original poster's signature. Yes, on the 3G trucks, all one has to do is have the dealer turn on the DRL function in the truck's software.

Oh a 96! Thats easier. Two standard flashlights ducted taped to the front. Standard bulbs of course. Just do as my WIFE does. Pull the headlight switch!
