Daytime running lights on a 01 Sport?

Does anyone have a '01 Sport with DRL? If so which bulbs are used the inner or outer? I am thinking of adding them to my truck. Thanx tgb

My 2001 has DRL-mandated up here since 1990 I believe... . anyway it's the outer bulbs that light up. Chrysler has the DRL module hooked up so you can turn your park lights on and the DRL's still stay on. They come on as soon as the truck starts up, but go off when you set the park brake... .

USA truck's do NOT have the pigtail harness to allow you to add DC DRL box.

The reason why I ask is that I am just about to do a European lights specification update/change to my truck, and the DRL pigtail wiring update might enable me to fastrack the change more painlessly?

Sure I can-I don't have a digital camera so I'll have to snap some pics and get them developed. I need to take some pics of it anyway-I either never have it clean enough to photograph or don't have the camera when it is clean... . Pretty poor excuse I guess seeing as I've had it 2 months now... .



Curious to know about the Euro light upgrade-I assume it's like the Neon and Grand Cherokee ones that convert to a H4 bulb setup? Those would probably work sweet-I love my Sport lights now but I'm gonna upgrade the bulbs to PIAA or IPF's to coax a little more light out of them-you can never have enough...



So if you haven't heard from me in a week or so please jar my memory-I'll try to get them snapped today but I need to get my truck shined to finish off the roll-then I'll get them developed, scanned and uploaded to my site.

Do you Canadians still have to run headlights all day? I went to Niagra Falls last month and did not see any signs when I crossed over, nor did I leave my lights on. Most others did not either.



Just wondering? ... did they get smart and get rid of that law?

Not here in Alberta anyway-you can run with 'em on or off your preference. I got in the habit when I drove professionally to turn them on first thing in the morning and shut them off right before the truck went off-amazing how many blind people there are on the roads



And John I haven't forgotten about your photos-I took some last week with my cheapo fixed-focus camera-got them back last night and they're poor to say the least. According to the viewfinder the truck should have filled the photo-reality is the truck is framed pretty good by the surrounding scenery. So I'm gonna take some more this weekend with Dad's Pentax-hopefully I can get them taken, developed and posted early next week.

I hate DRL with a passion and I refuse to drive any vehicle that has it. I will turn my headlights on when I want them on.

Thanks Jason! Rob G. I agree with you 100% - over here in Europe, it is down to the driver's discretion for DRL but as a general rule of thimb, if the roadside visibility during the daylight hours is at all compromised, then on go the brites (dipped not mains). There are plenty of idiots driving here on the roads of Europe too with their brains on autopilot, even though a 1 ton dually stands out a bit more - thank God for my Grovers on at least two occasions so far.....

about drl and lightsout.org... ... ... ... headlights(low beams) don't blind us at night, figure the odds of doing it during the day! they do increase visibility of the vehicule, ever wonder why they've been standard on bikes for ever? I lived in Canada up to 98 and they are mandatory on all new cars since the early 90's but there are no laws that require the driver to turns on the headlights on older models. Mandatory might be a bit much but there sure is very little if any down side. My 2 cents.

I always drive with my lights on and I even use the fogs when I do my mountain commute. We get a lot of oncoming motorcycles passing and with all the dispersed lighting in the trees, I want to be as visible as possible.



I'm less offended by DRL than Rob and I personally think that the daytime running lights are a good idea because I see too many people who forget to turn on their headlights even at night!

The DRLs really create a hazard because of the contrast difference between those with the dumb lights on and those without. This is especially bad with driving in 3 lanes or more on the freeway and there are people passing on both sides. When you look in the side view mirror to see if you can change lanes, the glare from the DRLs will make it so you can't see the normal vehicles with their lights off. The contrast also creates the same problem when waiting at a stop sign and trying to enter a busy highway.

Hey Guys

I wasn't trying to start an arguement, I was just asking which bulb was used. I agree that some DRL do cause glare but others don't. I tried them out on my truck and even in series the lights were too bright. I do believe they are an advantage when driving on long desert stretchs. I will figure out how want to do it.

tgbol - I just installed sport headlights on my '99 and added DRL's to it. It can be done using the inboard low beam segment of the set up that is not used. I'm out of time tonight, but if you'll e-mail me next week I'll give you a rundown of how I did it.
