I like the idea of daytime running head lights, like what's required in Canada. I'm getting ready for my big summer sojourn around the Northwest and am interested in having my headlights on when the engine is running WITHOUT having to use the existing headlights on full tilt. I believe the Canadian system/law employs the headlights at 60-70% of normal brightness.

I assume there is some control box/switch for this setup and it would probably be a DC item for Canadian sold trucks. So, where can I get one and does it make sense for what I want done. I pull a 5th wheel RV and don't want all the lights on during daytime as is the case when I use the normal headlamp dash switch.

Your thoughts please... ... ... ...

Part number is 56021561 - Lamp Module - list price is about $80

Had to replace it on my '96 but I'm pretty sure that it would be the same through 2002 - double check with your dealer.

The module mounts to the driver's side inner fender apron underneath the brake booster - there should be an unusual looking connector on the harness that it would plug into. Really easy to swap and/or install.

Yes, I think the idea of using the DRL module is a good one - I like having lights on at the right time, but don't want all of that current flowing all of the time through the trailer & the rest of the truck.

"Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108, which governs the installation and performance on lamps and reflective devices on motor vehicles in Canada, permits the DRL function to be reciprocally incorporated with the low beam headlamps, the high beam headlamps, the fog lamps, or the turn signals -- or they can be separate dedicated units. "

I got this from a lighting specalist on the web he has checked the Canadian Gov web site.

You could wire up a set of fog type lights and run them thru an Ign + feed and another relay to shut them off when you turn on the head lights.

Just My $0. 02 worth CC

Why not use a relay connected thru your Ignition switch and park brake switch (so you can kill these lights while you are running and parked) wire the other side of this to your low beam circuit. Make sure you diode it so you don't get feed back, and resitor it on the feed side so you get about 6 volts to the lowbeams. Parts = $20, Time = +- 2 hours. ) Or you can just buy the module and plug it in. I'm sure it would take little effort to get you one of these modules if you wanted. Cheers,
