I finally made it to Canada on Friday to meet with Bill K. and Piers and was able to drop my turbo off at PDR. Piers was gracious enough to repair my once-perfect turbo and to send the compressor wheel off for failure analysis. From my discussions with Piers, we are not sure at this point what "I" have done to it! I am starting to suspect that I had some welding slag (even though I used shielding gas) or some type of foreign object in the cold-side piping let loose and perform its magic on the compressor wheel. I am starting to wonder why I chose to use my best HX35 (Piers Special) as my guinea pig primary turbo. Looking back on everything, I would have preferred to have destroyed my stock 35 and be currently driving around on Piers' 35. I really never realized how much of a difference there was between the two. Once I get the Piers' Special back in my possession, it will be installed directly into my 2001, for which I originally purchased it. At least I was able to enjoy three months of trouble-free boost before I decided to turn it into a rock crusher! I guess if one wants to play, one has to pay. Or is "I am my own warranty station" more appropriate?

I do have to commend Piers on his offer to repair the turbo immediately so that I could get it back on my truck, however, it wasn't necessary for him to jump through hoops as I will be indisposed over the next several weeks. Throughout my years of dealing with Piers, he has proven that he is top in customer service. This experience is further verification of that.

Piers, always one-upping someone, brought out his new toy turbo from Holset. What can a person say besides, "Wow" or is that "Wow, eh?" It should be very interesting once Piers has done some R/D. It looks to be a very promising avenue for him to pursue in his never-ending quest for more horsepower. Piers, one question I forgot to ask you, will this help clean up the smoke from the tailpipe? And I don't mean your definition of "it barely smokes"! Thanks again for the hospitality and your offer to get things fixed right away.

I have put some more thought into what I can modify on the wastegate housing/exhaust housing to help lower backpressure, I just need to find some time to get in front of a milling machine to make the modifications. The first thing I need to do is check my welds in my cold-side piping for any wire or slag.

Well, off to e-bay to search for used HX35s. I'll get my twin turbo set-up trouble-free and functioning... even if it takes six, seven (heck, even eight!) tries!

By the way, if anyone needs to cross the border any time soon, bring your passport. The strip search was nothing like I've seen in the pay-per-view movies!

I think Piers hit a gold mine

with his alliance with Holset.

Should be a great deal for both parties :)

There are alot of unheard of "gurus" regarding turbos, its a matter of finding them. Its nice having a choice of different turbos and options.

speak of the devil....

hey Kat,

I think after your vist to DD before May Madness, wouldn't it be time for twins, and I don't mean with SheKat!:D ;) :p

Also, what is the word on moving to Texas?

No I am shying away from twins on the truck. I want to find the limits of a single turbo and try to stay with a single turbo (my personal preference). The KwikSpool was perfect, other then the fact I blew it up. The B1 turbo thats being built has a bigger shaft then the H2E, and supposedly flows more air, so I am anxious to see it. If the B1 doesn't work out, then I am going to try a H2E hybred. All I want/need is 50lbs of boost.

The Texas thing with work, they are still evaulating whether or not they want to do it. So if they do it I would imagine it will be sometime in March before anything would happen (guessing).

I was wondering...

I was wondering why you were not going with a H2E, but now I know why. I know very little about the KwikSpools, but that makes a lot more since. Hope this one works a lot better. Do you have a goal with your truck? 12. 99 maybe?

just wondering about the Texas thing, hope it works out for the best, however that might be. just keep us updated, I want to see a 13 secon 1/4 with my own eyes.

Well like I said if the B1 doesn't work out like I want (main concern will be turbo lag) then MY6EATSV8's is going to set me up with the turbo he runs (hes way faster then me). Goal? Well they keep going up ;)

Right now I want over 500hp on #2 Dsl (that should be obtained at DD without a Cam swap)and hoping for 600hp on #2 Dsl and Nitrous. I want to stay away from Propane. The other kicker is I intend to stay with my DDIII's ;) Although for a dyno run or something I might try some BD 5's or DD Super Mentals... but I don't think I would like the drivabilty of them with my auto.

I am positive I could hit 12. 99 E/T with nitrous if I added it right now. I am contemplating several things, my gear ratio will become a problem hear eventually, so most likely will have to goto 295's on the tire size. Still palying with what my options are ect.

while moving off the original topic, (sorry DBR) does anyone have the H2E hybrid on a manual truck? if so PM me or email or ?

I too only want 50PSI and a single and around 450-500HP. I have talked myself into a H2E 12cm like Adam is running.

now talk me out of it :D

Depends on what "kind" of HX40 and how you treat it. I have blown up 1 Kwikspool HX40 with 12 cm² housing on it, but it had about 35 drag strip passes on it. It never saw over 40lbs.
