I called the beloved parts department today at my favorite d*****ship and found out you can NOT buy a Jake Brake from them at this time. Any of you guys know what the deal is? I can get one at Cummins West, but why did DC pull the plug on all Jake Brakes for all transmissions? :(

I read somewhere where there was a fire hazard due too either not enough clearance or leaking gaskets. So they pulled them all. Supposedly, they are supposed to be available around spring time.

Blu-meanie I see you are from Placer County.

Carson Dodge has just recieved a shipment of E-Brakes from Jacobs. They should be the updated version, but be sure to ask.

Their # is (888) 883-2028

Thanks RankRam, I'll call them when they open. I guess the California Dodge boys don't rate, I called about them yesterday.

I just got my 2005 3500 back from the dealer last night after they installed the revised exhaust brake.

They installed three parts:

Qty FP number Description

1 82208835-AB Brake Kit 1090026

2 EC200 Elec/Conn

1 4778570 Sleeve HE 8059040

It took them one day to install.

They left me the old elbow, the old belt, two "Jake Brake" sticker/plates and two pieces of paper consisting of the warranty and driving instructions.

Also they gave me the part number for the new belt if I need to replace it in the future.

Interestingly enough, both sheets of paper have Cummins bulletin numbers on them. And the switch, mounted on the stick, has the Cummins logo on it. It looks more like a Cummins product than a Jacobs.

I am looking forward to towing my fifth wheel with it as soon as the weather warms above 20 degrees F.

Blu-meanie,

I think you may have reached the part time parts manager, also known as the new car prep kid. :D

;) Jacobs is a part of Cummins so they are actually the same company. :)

ENordstrom;

Are you saying they upgradd a present Jacobe E Brake, or you had a new revised one installed. I have a Jacobs E Brake on my 03 and have never been contacted about a recall or any problems.

I had a new one installed. I received the truck in late november, a 2005 3500, and had negotiated the exhaust brake into the price of the truck. After I got the truck they then tell me about a hold on the brake. Early January, my dealer called and said that the brake was ordered and would arrive on the 15th. On the 18th they installed it.

From my discussions with DC, and moving up the food chain getting stonewalled by their Customer Service, and from everything I have read here and at other forums/places, my opinion is that the bracket assembly to mount the brake could be installed incorrectly causing heat problems or even fire in the engine compartment.

The new kit made the bracket fit only one way, hopefully idiot proof, and might have fixed some deficiences with the serpentine belt bracket.

To be honest, I am not sure what the changes were and there are far more knowledgable people on these forums who can explain the technical differences.

I am just glad I have one ! :D

I was quoted this week just under $1,400 (9. 25% tax included) for a Jake brake installed on my `04 six speed. Does that seem to be in the ballpark? The company is a Cummins authorized installer/parts dealer.

Got my 05 from Dave Smith motors in Dec 04, Had them install an exhaust brake and was not descriptive about what brand, they installed a Pacbrake with switch on my 6spd shifter. Total price $1350 installed so sounds reasonable to me.

Sounds right

Les... That's right in line with what the dealer charged me when I had them install one prior to taking delivery. . Gerry

I think I was wrong

Since when does Cummins own Jacobs. I know Jacobs wa started by Clessie Cummins, but they are two different companies.

You appear to be correct, I thought I had read somewhere that Cummins had bought Jacobs but I cant find anything in a quick search to support my feeble memory :(

Exhaust brake prices.

Sounds like you guys are getting good prices on your Jacobs brakes.

I keep getting quotes of over $1,800. 00 here in northwest Florida.

Where are you getting the cheaper ones? Thanks for the help.
