*Angry* Max, I very much agree with your views! In an older thread, I suggested that auto unions have outlived their usefulness and should be dissolved. I got flamed hard. I sited the Honda plant in Marysville, OH... they are non-union and produce probably the finest cars in America. The workers are happy, the management is happy and all is well, working together. The unions protect the workers smoking dope on the lunch hour and jack the per-unit costs so that we CANT compete globally. Germany's auto workers are in total chaos as well... much worse than here. The unions have thrown the men/women to the curb and replaced them with forign nationals working for pennies! Hans and Franz do not built the new MB's and BMW's... Omar and Achmed from Turkey are in the pit, and Dieter walks his section of line with his lab coat and clip board. However, the work is fine and accurate. . and if they screw up, they get fired and replaced. Dont flame me if you cant see that unions suck and are ruining America.

While I do see problems with the current situation, I'll dodge the organized labor issue and just suggest that ALL PARTIES, organized labor or not, could do a better job of working towards a more collaberative outcome rather than adversarial.

However, I'm still JEALOUS about 1st dollar health coverage... THAT'S UNREAL! Great if you can get it, but I'm not paying for it... not at GM any way.

TQM... etc.

Sure...

Amazing that he had to go over seas to get any buy in at first... only later to have the west embrace it.

Doesn't really matter where the ideas come from... IT IS ALL ABOUT WHO CAN TURN INVENTION INTO INOVATION AND MAKE A BUCK IN THE PROCESS.

I guess dodge is going back to there practices before the bankrupt status, when the our gov beld them out. Come on dodge build a truck that can match such a kick a** engine that you have installed. Keep on truckin!!!!!!!!!!

You guys may flame me for this, and knock on wood, but I had absolutely ZERO problems with my 2001 St Louis built truck until 19100 miles. That's when my Cummins blew a head gasket in the oil feed line; blowing oil all over the place. It was down 9 days waiting for parts. Although the paint is a bit thin, I can't believe there wasn't even one single screw loose, one rattle, or one part out of line in such a complex piece of machinery except for the best part of the whole truck - the engine, which had a bad head gasket.

BCFAST, I agree with you on the union status. I think all union paid auto makers are overpaid lounge chair empoyees driving up the cost of our goods. Not to say that just because an employee is union payed makes them lazy. But There does seem to be a big difference between union worker and private sector quality just as there is between the american made and foreign made product quality. You think theres a connection? I have finally got my new 2001 B2500 and it was made in St. Louis. With only 2000 miles on it the quality seems to be fine with the excpetion of the buttons on the stereo sticking in when pushed. But I must note that not all problems arise from the labors putting the thing together, but some come striaght from the drawing board. (ei: the engine vent tube oil catch canister located on the front of the motor behind the fan where its in a perfect spot to let those nice rotella oil oder smells into that cab). I think though if we keep writing maybe someday we can help them come around.

PS: BCFAST, I miss the 5 speed.

Tom,I'm with you on the unions. Who's going to try to do a better job,the guy with 20,000 members backing him up when he screws up or the Mexican who gets instantly fired?
