Third generation 4X2 trucks — ball joint issues?

I haven't seen it discussed here so... . Am I the only one that is waiting rediculous amounts of time for parts to show up at the dealer? It has now been 18 days since they ordered parts for my truck, and no call from the dealer yet. I have a new rear driveshaft assembly, ball joints, and a power window regulator coming. I was told one of the parts was on national back order, not sure which one. How can this be? These trucks have been on the road since 2003, and somehow there is no stockpile of commonly failed parts to repair the trucks? Somehow it takes weeks from one of the worlds largest automakers? When I brought the truck in I wanted it fixed, not to drive around for three more weeks with a broken power window, nasty 70 mph vibration and wandering front end. Pretty pathetic, I can get parts fro a grey market Mercedes more quickly than for a Dodge:rolleyes:

careful, your dealer may be playing games with you. On occasion, dealers will run out of credit with their parts supplier... and you'llbe left holding the bag till they pay their bills. Call up another location and see if you can get a delivery time for the same parts. You may be surprised at what you find.

The last few parts I ordered came more or less overnight

Front driveshaft
ball joints---Moog from ??? Ordered thru dealer
Axle joints
Axle seals

Something may be up with your dealer. Try a different one and see what happens.

I stopped there friday and they said the parts had come in Thursday, they just hadn't called yet???? The work is scheduled for Tuesday.

This is being billed to an aftermarket warranty company. I knew I was going to use it after test driving the truck, and everything but the Cummins engine warranty was expired. Even though the contract states the warranty is in effect immediately, the service manager wanted me to wait a month before making a claim. His reasoning was that the warranty co. may accuse the dealer of selling a truck with known faults, not fixing them before the sale and sticking it to them. The truck was sceduled to be wholesaled because of the miles (70k on a 2006) so they never did run it through their shop. I got a heck of a buy on it even with the extended coverage.

Looks like stalling me got them out the 30 or so days the service manager wanted:mad: At least I will get a driveshaft and ball joints for $100:)

It took a week for a new rail pressure sensor to get to my dealer for my truck. So I was SOL for a week...

I too had to wait for the pressure sensor. However it didn't fix the problem. I've now got a FCA on order so they have the part in stock before I leave the truck there again. I'm STILL looking for a dealership that knows what the heck is going on with these trucks. My original dealer sold out to a big outfit here and I just don't want to go to them anymore (had problems with the Wife's Durango we leased from them) So, even after telling the dealer I'm looking for some one new to care from my truck they pulled the following... They called me the day after I dropped it off, told me it was ready... and the dang CEL was still on! WTH? Oh we forgot to tell you the parts on order. So far Dodge service is NOT impressing me.

Service manager was correct in his thoughts of what the aftermarket SERVICE CONTRACT would think. That they are getting screwd. Those policys are NOT to repair used vehicles. Lots of times they will send a adjuster out to see if ALL that went wrong in a month with you.

How thoroughly do dealers check out used cars? My experience has been that they pretty much wash them and put them on the lot, nobody really checks them out, even those that claim to have done a sixty bazillion point used car inspection. My dad was in the business for a couple decades. I worked for a few of the places he manged while in school and I can tell you for a fact that I found more faults with used cars on the lot after "inspections" than the "mechanics" ever did. When I bought the '03 Hemi truck, it was in great shape but had a driveline vibe. I test drove and '04 Ram and it also had a vibe, both nice looking trucks sitting on the used car lot. I know they drove the truck I bought to appraise it for trade but no way did they find half of the stuff it really needs in a 5 minute drive. So I buy it, and within a few days find a few things I think it needs. I also purchased a service contract that goes into effect immediately. Maybe all of the stuff on my list was wrong before I bought it but I guess I consider what happened, and how it happened to be pretty typical. Are you inferring that somehow there is grounds to deny the coverage? Seems to me, the dealership was acting along "standard practice for the industry" type of lines. I bought the warranty knowing I would probably find some things that needed correction, and I did. Seems to me, that is EXACTLY what they are for and it is exactly why the dealer sells them. If the warranty company is too stupid to figure this out then they should dabble in another business.

The better dealers do go over them and ones with known issues that if a service contract is sold and a chance that a claim may get kicked back for a pre exsisting problem they eaither fix first or wholesale. Seen MANY a claim or several issues on same vehicle denied and process stopped dead in its tracks. Then the USED CAR DEPT has to eaither pay for the repairs or come up with another vehicle. Those policys are NOT to fix pre exsisting problems and do police what they sell. Used vehicles with new service contracts are to be sold with out major issues. Dosen't take rocket science to see through claim/claims that were pre exsisting and called in first couple of weeks it was sold.

I guess I will let the dealer and the contract company duke it out then. The dealership assured me it would be covered, and I have told them repeatedly not to perform the work if it isn't going to be covered. Obviously I could have it all done for a small fraction of what the dealers bill will come to.

Iv also got an 05 and was told I needed, and they replaced, the fuel pressure sensor after getting a P 0191 code.

What is FCA??

Thanks
