There is no freaking way I would buy a Dodge without a Cummins Diesel in it but, at the same time I do not think I could buy a Ford, even if it was available with a Cummins. I used to be a service rep at my local Ford dealer and I have seen too many other problems with the truck to be interested. If a Cummins were not available I would probably be forced to buy a truck from GM:(

Just my . 02

Kurt.

I guess I'm one of the few who would buy a Dodge, no matter what. I have had about 50+ Mopars in my 36 years and I can only think of one that was crappy. Actually, the only thing I owned that wasn't a Chrysler product was an MG Midget(stupid!). All that being said, they would be crazy to ditch the Cummins for any other make of diesel. Hopefully a few people at DC on this side of the Atlantic remember that.

Here is your body and chassis, now what engine, transmission and axles would you like?

I've been saying that since I was around 15yrs. old.

CUMMINS with a Super10 behind it! :D

If had to buy a Dodge w/o Cummins, I would put one in.

IN case I was unclear...

I LOVE my truck--that's what keeps the VP44 alive!:D

2nd Gen is where it's at for me. They'll probably be on 5th or 6th gen before I use up all the 2G's around. ;)

If Ford had the Cummins (or any I6) I'd look at them, but no GM ever never. Too cheesey. Well, I said never, maybe a '71 with a 327--but not likely. The '77 Ford is my retro ride of choice.

Dodge without a Cummins?--only a Viper. Oo.

I have to agree with y'all. I bought my Dodge mainly because of the Cummins. Heck, first tank full got me 17. 4 MPG!! Not to shabby for a 4X4. IMHO, Dodge does make the best looking truck. That was just the icing on the cake. I keep my vehicles untill the wheels fall off. I think this truck will last a long time. I'm greatfull for this forum. It was me quietly reading all the posts for about a year that sold me on the Cummins. Thanks.

I think Dodge is the best looking of the big three trucks. The Cummins is the best diesel in those three. A V8 diesel will never be a choice of mine. Learned that YEARS ago from BIG rig and BIG equipment repair centers and personal. THE RUMOR I got 2. 5 years ago from D. C. reps was that in the future a BIGGER series truck and THAT the Cummins was going to be THE STANDARD power-plant and a D. C. built trans was to be The standard transmissions. . THE optional power-plant was to be a big DAIMLER diesel with a 5 or 6 speed autos. That was at the time what D. C. was working on and in that direction so I was told.

In the slim chance that someone from DC will read this, I offer this response.

I bought my truck because of the Cummins engine and it happened to have a Dodge wrapped around it. However, I am happy with the Dodge part as well. I did not even consider the Powerstroke or the Duramax. I personally cannot see why anyone would buy a Powerstroke or Duramax when you have an industrial grade engine such as the Cummins offerred (just my opinion). I can understand DC's reasons for wanting to put their own diesel engines in Dodge trucks, but agree with many that their market share will plummet if they fail to offer Cummins in the future. I really don't think the DC folks are foolish enough to think they make a better engine than Cummins; it's just that they see savings (read more profit) if they put their own engines or a Detroit in the Dodge. Another thing to consider is that Nissan will have a full-size truck on the market soon (gasser only at this time) but you have to wonder whether or not there will be four choices instead of three in the diesel pickup marketplace in the near future.

Is there anyone out there that would buy the Dodge if they took out the Cummins?

I would absolutly. Not only would I, but I have and I will again. All you guys that think your truck sucks "except for the Cummins" must be blindfolded. Heh heh! Forgetting about engines for a moment, Ford and Chevy both have their good points and their sucky points. I test drove all 3 before choosing the Dodge and the Cummins was a plus. I have many friends that have all but Dodge trucks and see the pro's and con's to them. Dodge might not be at the top of all your lists but you should stand back and take a better look at the truck, not engine and think about how the competition stacks up. It's not any better, that's for sure.

My vote goes with Dodge. They're fools if they drop the Cummins but if they did, I'd sure look over the new replacement before jumping on the Ford or Chevy bandwagon. :D

Add me to the list of people who would not own a Dodge if it did not have the Cummins.

However, I would not under ANY circumstances ever own a Ford truck.

I would switch to GM (probably GMC) and hope the Duramax turns out to be a good motor. I depise the sound of the Powerstroke, and up here in Reno, Ford truck drivers are without a doubt the most inconsiderate people on the road... and not just when I'm in my truck, but no matter what I drive.

BTW, I heard a rumor today from somebody whose father retired from Ford, that Ford has signed a contract to put CAT diesels in their trucks in 2005. I personally find this hard to believe since they just put all that effort into the new 6. 0, but who knows.

Personally, I believe that all there American auto manufacturers put out junk!PROFIT always comes first. These auto manufacturers count on us accepting a vehicle that is built to meet a minimum quality level. A level that can be justified by hard numbers ( amount of warranty repairs and buybacks under lemon law. ) Greed is destroying this GREAT country and apathy is allowing it to happen. My truck has been in the shop for a total of 20 days fixing multiple problems including a complete rear end replacement. I have 9,100 miles on the truck (no towing and under 60mph for the first 500 miles) and 3,500 on new rear end and it now howls. With most American Manufacturers, the idea of doing it right the first time is HISTORY. Cummins does it right! If they go, I go!

I don't understand why people are so down on the Dodge part of the truck, Ive got a '92 F250 2wd and just considering the truck part my dodge is superior in almost every way, my father in laws '96 chevy was no better than my dodge in non engine areas and neither was my neighbors '96 ford. My friends '00 powerstroke is a nice truck and may have a slight edge in body fit and finish but certainly has no advantage in the suspension and drivetrain. I think if you scored all three truck brands on a scale of 1 to 100 all three would score over 95 and all would be better than any brand from ten years ago. The 5. 9 Cummins is obviously the best engine out there and I think dumping the Cummins would be a VERY bad move on DC's part but to say a Mercedes TRUCK engine couldn't be as good or better than a 6. 0 Navistar or an Isuzu D-max is silly.

Nissan has SOME GOOD DIESELS in the World market! Big inline babys. I don't think that Dodge and Cummins are even entertaning a thought of splitting. Yes we may see some BIGGER diesels in the future from D. C. But the Cummins and D. C. thing has been REAL good for both partys.

Well,

I guess this is as good as a place as any to have my first post.

I have owned a '97 Ford powerstroke and several non diesel GM pickups and SUVs. I am a proud owner of a 2003 Cummins Ram 4x4 QC bought new in March with over 12k miles on it now.

I have had zero problems with my truck. I can't say the same for the Ford and GMs that I have owned. I am (was) a die hard chevy fan too. If Dodge got rid of the Cummins I would probably go back to the Ford or GM but would not rule out the Dodge because of all the luck I have had with it.

The GM problems were mostly transmission and electrical gremlems. The Ford problems were due to suspension problems. All three brands have been good to me from the engine side but I am partial to the Cummins.

I like the cab size of my truck but would be much happier with a full size crew cab. I plan on keeping this truck for 10+ years so will see how it last.

Wouldn't it be a nice surprise if the Dodge boys gave us a choice.

Lets say CTD. or Mercedes TD. and maybe even Detroit TD. Now that would be smooth. ;) :D

My $. 02 cents.

If DC decides to drop the Cummins engine. They drop any possibilities of me ever buying another DC product. Mercedes diesels are no where near what the Cummins diesels are. IMHO!

The Dodge part of my truck is ok, but not OK enough to convince me to gamble with the German powerplant. Beside, what would the mechanics labor cost be for those things. There are a lot of Good Cummins Qualified Mechanics out there. Cheap, especially if you look at the going hourly rate for the Caterpillar mechanics.

I was so impressed with my Dodge Ex cab I bought a 12v for my motorhome. IF, I ever crash my 24V pickup I'll definitly keep it and swap the motor into something else. Probably a Ford Crew Cab.

I agree with the statement above. Greed has taken over Corporate America. I see it every day in the Company I spent the last 30 years of my life working for. Greed has got things so screwed up you can't get a decent anything anymore! Well, almost nothing. I still do my best to provide my customers the best service I'm allowed to deliver. Even to the point of getting pulled on the carpet several times a year for going above and beyond the Company Guidlines. Hell, I'm looking at losing my job now for going that extra mile. Don't ask me my opinion if you don't think it'll agree with you. It probably won't and I'll give it to you the way I see it. No candy coating either. !

Woa, Sorry, I get carried away sometimes. I think I hear my Cummins calling me.

I agree with my fellow Cannuck. Germans may be snobs but they do fine engineering. Lets compare a CTD and a MTD within the same chassis, and see. Let the best win. :D Dan

As I stated in a earlier post. One of the Reps when I was with a D. C. dealer said that WHAT he was told was that the possibility of the Cummins and D. C. built transmissions as standard equipment and a BIG DAIMLER built diesel with German 5 or 6 speed autos as optional equipment was what was being discussed
