I had and saw lots of customers who had gas dodge trucks. most liked them far better then chevy or Fords. One of the issues brought up was price. Lots of pro bass fisherman really liked the Dodge 1500 S/B with 318 or 360. liked the looks and performance and then always comminted that it was THOUSANDS below a Chevy price wise.

I grew up in western Montana and started driving in the mid '60s. I was around all the truck brands. Back then the Dodge had a body that was junk but a drive train that was unbeatable. The harder you worked them, the better they ran. When the going got rough, which it did a lot, the Dodges seemed to always come thru - usually towing the Chevys and Fords. I will stick with Dodge. If no Cummins, I'll go back to gas or just keep what I've got until I can't duct tape it together any more.

Adsharpe,

Yes I'm aware of the purchase by Daimler and that my truck was assembled in Mexico. Dodge is still an American truck. It's not shipped over here from Germany and assembled in Mexico. And the last time I looked, Mexico is in America. :D

Briman,

I don't consider a very minor driveshaft imbalance a problem. The way the dealership handled it was a problem. Once they changed it, problem solved. The PSD 6. 0 has problems. We don't have problems. We have a few minor touch-ups to address. I had one. Now my truck is flawless. It just needs alittle character.

not to stir a pot, but the errors per truck are much lower in the mexican plants and paint is 10 times better...

I work in a union shop, but darn-it, its a 38K truck, i expect the best paint, not just "ok- it passed" paint

ya know?

Mine's a Mexican and whatta truck it is:D . Best fit and finish of any of my Dodges and the best vehicle I have ever owned by a country mile (or kilometer;) ).

That's how you are supposed to do it, no "shudder" that way;) . That low end gov is pretty slick, I can start off on a hill pulling my trailer in 1st and never touch the throttle until it's rolling. Love it:D . Amen.

I would purchase a Dodge Ram Mercedes Diesel truck before I would buy Phord or GM diesel powered truck.

I'm with Hemi. The Cummins is a great engine, but I'm a Dodge boy through and through. I would be disappointed if they got rid of the Cummins, but I would probably try out it's replacement. I can't imagine DC would replace a great engine like the Cummins with trash.

Nate :)

After the Dodge/Cummins, my dream truck would have to be a Chevy/GM with a Deere 6 cyl Powertech 6068 (6. 8L) - 275 hp, 768 ft-lb torque. Unfortunately, weighs 1300 lb.

We researched a long time, over a year before buying our 1999 Ram because of the cummins. Dodge/chrysler to me was not a good start because of bad experiences, but the cummins stood head and shoulders above the competition in terms of longevity, reputation, and simplicity balanced with considerations for the power necessary.

the Ram had shortcomings... serious in our opinion... brakes that absolutely were not adequate, and a transmission that did not take advantage of the cummins power the two leading. We bought the new Ram in 03 for those reasons, and again because the cummins was still the clear choice. Even my Friends who own Ford and Chevy and who are loyal, say that the ideal is their favorite with a cummins engine.

It is clear that cummins is preparing and gathering data given their latest poles, and I would buy a ford or a chevy with a cummins.

We like the looks and some of the nicer features of the 03, but would suffer those features clearly, no contest, if they lost cummins unless:

the mercedes or the replacement (which we have clearly not researched) could match the features of the cummins.

We have no brand loyalty, no I would only drive a dodge or a ford or even just drive a cummins powered truck. They certainly aren't going to be loyal to us. We are just like the coach... we want the best 11 men on the field, or in this case the best combination available.

That is what people expect from us, that is what we expect from the products we buy in the major investment category.

Whatever happens, I think Cummins will do just fine.

I swear every week over at the dieselstop.com another Ford guy talks about Ford owning Cummins and they are just waiting for the agreement with Dodge to end. :D :D :D

The original agreement between Cummins...

and Dodge ended, but a new agreement was reached. If DC wants to keep the sales up where they are and higher, they will stick with Cummins. The price is right and it is the best engine on the road. Our American techs have a hard enough time working on American engines... don't even want to try them on a German engine.

I can't say for sure that I would not buy a Dodge with a Mercedes diesel, but I won't buy a first year model... it must be proven in the application like the Cummins first. :p

STEVE M,

Did your truck vibrate a little between 70 and 80mph as if you had mud tires? Did you change front drive shafts out?

Mexico is now the US. The former US is now China. Both the former US (China) and the new US (Mexico) are owned by Walmart and Tyson Chicken. There is now no America although The bottom half of the Americas is still there. I forgot to mention Aztlan which is part of Mexico (the new US).

Of course all Americans should be replaced with Mexicans and the tech jobs all sent offshore. I tell my friends from India and Pakistan continually that they should go home and make room for a Mexican. They don't seem too excited about having an American job in India. Doesn't pay much. I try to explain to them that it is better than the former job that they were hoping for that is now moved to India. I guess it loses something in translation. Maybe they want my job!

I think Kirk Kerkorian could tell you what is an American company and what ain't. That's why DC settled with the other stockholders cause the merger wasn't a merger. Mr. K. went to trial today.

I find the demise of America interesting. What else could one expect from a people that would buy Yugos?

Like lil red cummins, I bought an engine, parts of which were manufactured in Brazil

but it's not REALLY funny.

The sad thing is

it doesnt matter what brand pu they stick this awesome motor in!

none of the brands are without some big downfalls

in todays society if you buy something new and have serious problems, well "too bad!"" wait till the new model comes out and trade it off. " " we'll treat you right. "

thats the mentality of our society

"throw it away" even if it cost you $45,000 , like my truck did and my last truck and the one before that and ... .....
