just got notified by DC that they have determined my 04 to be saltwater damaged and they want the truck back:--) Have any of you guys ever been through this or dealt with this type of situation. I am looking for advice on how to deal with the dealer in regards to this situation. Oh did i neglect to say that I have owned this truck for 6 mos. Thank you in advance for your help!!!!!

Thanks for responding. There is no visible damage to the truck that i can see. But they are offering to replace the truck apples for apples, except that the new one is going to be a 600. When they get their next shipment.

Did you do the saltwater damage?

How many miles were on the truck when you bought it?

That is the oddest thing I have ever heard. I bet there is something else going on, why after 6 months would they ask for it back.

Do you see any corrosion going on?

Have you taken it to the dealer for anything?

Did the dealership ask for it back or did it come from higher up?

Well, as a COMPLETLY satisfied 600 owner, if they are going to replace it with a BRAND NEW truck, at no cost to you, then go for it! That's a no-brainer in my book. :D

DC contacted us from Texas via an interception group of sorts. I recieved the truck with 40 miles on the odometer and I did not cause the damage, havent even been to the beach yet. The truck only has 1000 miles on it.

Considering the offer DC has made to you, go for it! Corrosion due to salt water exposure could take a year or two to show, then it will be too late. Remember rust is like cancer, it just spreads and gets worse.

I believe the saltwater damage in question is due to some of the trucks being transported by ship instead of rail. I've heard of others finding these "buy back" trucks available for sale as-is where-is a few months ago.

Apparently all of the east coast trucks have to be transported by ship and not rail out of mexico:confused:

If I was you, I would take the truck and run.

Are they going to let you pick out what you want, or do you have to take what they give you??

Yes,we spoke to dc in regards to buying the truck as is but they say no. They claim that the truck will be used for testing purposes or crushed.

They claim that the truck was on a barge that was caught in a hurricane . But was not caught before truck was tranported to dealer and bought by me.

Yes I can pick anything that i want as long as it is the same MSRP price or less.

Go for it! I had a 99 Dakota R/T they bought back because of a tow rating discrepancy. I drove that truck for a year (25k miles) and the only thing I paid for was the gas and insurance. They even paid me for all the mods I had done. I wish I could do that every year!:D

I heard about that ship getting caught in a hurricane sometime back. I thought at the time I saw that story that I wouldn't want one of those trucks unless they gave it to me.

Go for the trade, you'll never know what may fail down the road do to salt water damage.

steague,

I would agree that you should take the offer. Just one question though, how is it that you've had it for 6mo and only have 1000 mi on it?

I have not had mine a month and have more miles than that on it. I would trade up as well. I have a 600 and really like it, so far.

I still use my 97 for work all week long so this one is garage kept. I was suppose to sell the 97 when i got the 04,but i cant part with the 97 and put the 04 to work.

Friend had DC take his truck back in 97. DC wouldn't give an explanation and wouldn't offer any $$ compensation. He got a new truck and his "old" one sat on the dealer property for a long time??????????????
