Jump on that new truck offer... ... think about it..... if your truck starts to show signs of anything "rust related" if you don't take the offer... ... DC would have a good case for saying "snooze - ya looz".....

Not that I'm biased or anything..... my new '04. 5 is still waiting to be born :)

Trust me------ GET RID OF IT! :(

I live right on the ocean and salty water does some nasty stuff! I remember hearing about a ship taking on saltwater back in December '03. I confirmed this with my dealer. He lost 6 PT cruisers (which he didn't mind) and a number of ORDERED trucks. He was pretty upset along with the customers... since you guys know the wait for these trucks is really longgggggg!!!

Again, if DC says it has damage and they "WANT" the truck back... use that as a guide and give it back. I would say that they don't want to warrenty it and is afraid of being able to keep the truck running till warrenty expires.

Just my 2 cents... .

Good Luck!!!

I think everyone can agree that salt will tear a car/truck to shreds. Salt spray ... something the truck is desgined for and can take to a degree. Dipping part of the truck in saltwater... . that is another story!

New Truck

steague,

As a happy 600 owner, I would say give it back to them. Upgrade a 1/2 model year.

However, tell them it is your only truck and you need it for work until the 600 arrives.

Drive the 04 everyday and put the miles on it until the new one arrives.

Steague,

Wow, at that rate (2000 mi per year) your truck shouldn't need a rebuild until the year 2224. :)

Maybe you should get the pistons, rings and gaskets now, because they might be hard to find 220 years from now!

Dave

Go take your old one and run the h@ll out of it until the new one comes in. Don't be afraid to see just how much it will actually pull... ;)

It is ashame they are probably going to kill it since there are alot of guys that would jump on that newer transmission, etc.

Or maybe Dodge is trying to recall it and see why the 04's get so much better mileage than the 04. 5's :p (just loking guys)...

my 97 is a five speed and pulls like a mo fo and i am hoping that the new 600 w/6 speed will wil be just as great. Of course my wife is hoping that the "I cant drive the new one and get it dirty will wear off soon. "

Believe me, it gets in everything when you drive in salt water all winter at 70 mph.

This is happening to me. From what the dealer said my old truck will not even be sold- salvage title or not. I am very lucky I stayed very close to factory. MOPAR this and that stuff. Just the B&W and the spray in liner will be a problem. I was watching the boards after the "weird" phonecall from DC and I did not believe it- an unsolicited buy back??? Well at least DC is forward enough to deal with it now rather than later. It is mature thinking from the reputation and reliability standpoint. This is what quality minded companies do- Buy back the questionable models/runs/shipments and take them out of circulation. So no one sees dead and beat trucks with lless than 250,000 miles on them with your companies name on it. F*RD thinks its OK to run around with 8% fuel in oil.

For me I am using this opportunity to get the NAV radio. I got everything else except the sport, taunnue and drop in bedliner. An expensive buyback/scrap for DC. I should have an 04. 5 on the way - "hot" ordered on the 20th of April. Other than the weird transaction this is the optimal way for me to be in a 325/600- with 8,000 less miles and the same loan. I am happy- I also know people that would love to be at the " salvage" auction if they ever have it!

PCampbell my understanding is that anything that cannot be replaced with a mopar item, such as your spray in bed liner they will reimburse you for the cost if you provide a reciept Is yours being bought back due to saltwater damage or another defect?

As for the big Dakota R/T buyback I was involved in. A guy I worked with took the buyback and hooked up with a used car dealer friend of his... . he went to the auction and bought his truck back for half what he had in it originally. Of course this is a bit different I don't think I'd buy back a "hurricane truck" unless it was real cheap;) Then I'd buy it back and put the motor in my Jeep!:D

Am I crazy? If I had the same deal offered me I would NOT trade my truck for a 600. I have a weak, underpowered, aneamic,California SO that gets 22 mpg. If DC said they wanted it back and would give me a new 600 I would tell them to get lost and keep their warranty. I LOVE my truck and wouldn't trade it for anything. My only regret is not buying one many many years ago.

Iwant1, we asked DC about buying the truck at a reduced price to save us all a headache. They are afraid of a lawsuit down the road so they say they will either crush or use for crash test dummies

I've had zero problems with my 600. Order exactly what you want. Maybe you could drag your feet a bit and get an 05. :)

Yeah, it was totally different circumstances. They bought A LOT of R/Ts back, they auctioned them. But they should pay for your bedliner.

They will swap out the trailer hitch ( leaving a hole in the bed ) and will re-imburse me for the bedliner. A crack in the grill still has to be discussed- they want a perfect truck to crush/crash??
