FWIW, I just drove a friend's pmax-3 equipped ETH for about 160 miles last weekend. Level nine is fun! I love that box as it has great adjustability. Hohn, check it out, it's worth it. He did fry a clutch within hours of installing the pmax-3. Now, the truck is equipped with a tst clutch and all is well.

Per Rod@wilcat, i will be going with the Competition PMAX. That way you can hit level 9 on level 6, and it just gets better from there:)

I run my CC everyday about 20 miles each way to work with the Comp on 1x1 (sort of like an EZ, no VP wire) and the CC is pretty smooth. The roads are very flat though. I listen to the compressor for tiny additions and subtractions of throttle as the speed holds very well.

So are we all learning here that an EZ with DD2's is almost to aggressive? We sould be better off with a PMAX and DD2's? Am I getting the jist of it Justin... ... ... . ?

I tow about 10,000 lbs with my set up and find it to be an ideal combination. I have never exceeded 1100 degrees on the EGT. In fact I just returned from Montana and never broke 1000 degrees. I don't go over 70 mph in the open road and generally shift down to fourth and climb serious grades at 50 or 55 mph. The truck seems to just purr. You guys are over worrying this thing. Get the DDII's and be happy:D

my brother has 170k on his cummins. About 150k of it has been with a comp box, he tows considerably often with a large amount of weight. 20-25k GCVW. This was with a 2000 6 speed, he still on the original clutch. Though i drove it and its on the way out... finally. I was pretty impressed though for the stock clutch it holds up well.

I don't think we can say we have been able to come to any conclusions. Clearly the EZ/2s combo works, and works well. There are a lot of ETH guys running it, and none have reported problems.

All I am trying to say is that Diesel Dynamics did NOT find the EZ to be OPTIMUM for their injectors, that's why they had Edge change the parameters on the DDTTPM. The reasoning is that the DD injectors ALSO effectively advance timing, and when combined with the EZ, it's advanced further than the ideal.

IDEAL-- that doesn't mean that we are going to break anything.

It's like with the EZ and PMAX stacks. Back when either unit had less timing, the stacks worked well. Now, the newer boxes have more timing to them, and stacking them takes it too far. This has been the experience of Rod@wildcat and CRoth@BDpower.

Since I want to run a fueling box now, and can't stack, that's why I want the PMAX. Since the COMP has the same timing as the EZ, it rules that out for me as well. I figure I have enough timing with the DD2 injectors (or the Future Don M Mach 3. 5s)

Do I dream on too much? Is it so wrong to want a PMAX comp, Don M 3s (EDM), and twins? Seems like a reasonable Christmas to me:confused:

Cruise Control experience.

Keep in mind, this is just my personal experience. I installed the EZ back in February. Using the cruise back in February, it was jerky to say the least, hyper-sensitive would be another term. It overfueled and took off like a rocket when all it needed was just a little pedal, so I just used it a little every once in a while.

It is now working better than stock with the EZ on the truck. The point is, the electronics of the cruise control have to "learn" the fueling curve. I have seen a thread about this before on this board, but I don't remember the details. Mine has "learned" the fueling curve and works better than it did stock. Give it some time... you will be happy again!

But this all adds up to me looking closer at a PMAX. Besides, my stock clutch is still holdling ~340 hp, and I would kind of like to find its limits..... I can't believe it's still hanging in there, given the abuse it has seen... .

Justin,

You better be right! I just took advantage of the last days of the TDR discount and ordered my DD2's today. If I fry my clutch towing our 13,500 lb 5ver, you can give Peter at South Bend Clutch your credit card number for that CON O-FE! ;) :p

Sorry, I think I have a serious condition. Problem is, I only get $200 a month toy allowance for now:eek: I figure I get a serious toy allowance in the $600+ truck payment as it is.

I told my wife about the DOR bumper, and she wouldn't buy off on that ($1550).

You can only imagine how she was when I told her about the T-REX setup!!

But, I am overall pretty happy with things. We are paying off debt in huge chunks (pretty soon just mortgage and truck payments left), and I STILL get a little money for toys. And our savings account is growing for all the other things that the next year or so will bring us.

All in all, I feel pretty lucky to have bombed my truck as much as I have in only one year.

I should be able to have a few more toys added within the next year.

I am sure going to missithat DINK lifestyle once the wife quits working and the babies start coming-- then I will be broke forever:D

I don't have any credit cards anymore in my name (see above about debt) hehe.

You will like the combo. I have towed 6K and performed WOT runs uphill in 6th with that load and DD2+EZ, and no slip. I was flabbergasted. Granted, it's been a while since my flabber has been gasted, but you get the idea.

I would recommend you move the EZ jumper to the lowest setting. You will find the injectors more than compensate:D , IMHO.

I thought you have the 4. 10s, Rusty? You should be able to keep the clutch alive for at least a while. I have the 3. 55s, and it's holding. I can't see why you shouldn't be able to drive around it.

Be Advised that the DD2s are a MAJOR increase in power, be judicious with the pedal when towing. In other words, don't do what I did!!

Justin

Yep, I have the 4. 10's. Just be advised, if the clutch dust starts rolling into the cab when I try to drag that 5ver up a 6% grade, I'm telling my wife that it's all Justin Hohn's fault! :{

Jason,

Directly from Diesel Dynamics. The 20% TDR discount ends on September 19th, per Keith's posts. See here.
