Pulled a set of DD3 yesterday they have been in for 3 weeks(2002 H. O. Drag comp)and the point on the tips looked like they had been hit with a hammer, just the very end of them is flat like they have been hit.

This truck has just had a new head gasket put on it,it blew with these inj. in it,any idea what could cause this, and will it hurt the inj. .

We pulled the inj. because it kept lopping at idle and had a sputter when accelerating, but it started easy so I do not think we were getting air in the line.

Sending inj. back to DD to be checked out.

I would say those injectors are junk now. Any damage to the end is not good they will probably have to put new tips on them to be able to reuse them. Some thing hit them you HAVE to find out what that was.

Hope it work out for the best

Craig

Who replaced the head gasket? Just a thought, but the tips protrude the head, and maybe, just maybe, when they pulled the head and put it (read: threw it) on the bench the flatness occured.

The dealer changed the head gasket and they did not pull the inj. out of the head, how far does the inj. stick out of the head?

I do not think Dodge will pay for a new set of DD3.

Maybe DD can put new nozzles on the injectors.

I would march right down to the dealer that did your headgasket with the damaged tips and ask who dropped the cylinder

head on a hard flat surface and screwed up my costly injector nozzles.

They stick out just enough to cause trouble if not carefull. I'm sure the pattern would be affected, the holes are right there on the tip. Not sure on the repair, call DD and ask.

this has been talked about before. I just cant figure out why in the heck these clowns leave the injectors in when pulling the head. It doesn't take but 10 minutes longer to pull them by the time you have everything else off. Hammer mechanics!

Here's an observation:

If he's still under warranty... . then maybe he would be ill advised to yell at the dealer for ruining his non-OEM injectors which they could turn around and blame the blown HG on... .

Just my $. 02 worth...

Matt

Yeah... but do you think any wrench monkey that isn't smart enough to at least set the head down carefully, not to mention check for something like the injectors protruding below the surface of the head, is gonna be smart enough to know he has non-OEM injectors???:confused: :-{}

You never know... .....

Maybe he's really good at memorizing part numbers and their applications in lieu of being a good wrench handler... .

I'm not saying the owner doesn't have reason to be upset... . but lots of discretion is needed at this point in the game.

Matt

Best bet is probably to see what DD says it will cost to repair yours. If the dealer took responsibility you'd probably end up with stock injectors or worse a voided warranty. MHO

Of course the book says to pull injectors off before removing the head. Remember that this mechanic was working on a "book rate" job, meaning that if he finishes faster than the book says he makes more $$. That does not make it right, but that is the way it works at the dealers.

I would bet that buying one DD3 from DD would be alot safer than going to the dealer and telling him his wrench monkey messed up a $700 dollar set of aftermarket injectors.

The book also says to remove the belt to change the thermostat! Seems that you have to take the book with a grain of salt sometimes.

dd called yesterday and the first thing out of their mouth was that somebody tore the injectors up while taking the head off. so i go down to see the mechanic at the dealer and i couldn't be to upset because they do work on my truck no matter what i do to it, but he still thinks no matter what i told him yesterday that he didn't tear the injectors up pulling the head. lesson learned i'll make him pull the injectors next time if i let him fix another headgasket.
