Ok Ive got DD3's, a Edge comp (tapped) Stock HY35,



box on 1x5 I get my most smoke but every setting above that its very little even 5x5 its like the box is off yet the power is there. the heck is the deal? I figured it would smoke pretty good? I can get a good puff at low boost to the floor.



Ill be putting my PIERS hx40 16cm as soon as I get my HTT manifold in the mail. Ill be putting more fuel to get it to spool but with my current setup youd think it would smoke pretty good on 5x5?!?!



any ideas guys? Ive hit 40 psi (no j hook or plug) yet it doesnt show any overboost codes when I key code it...

The Comp will fool the computer so you wont see any overboost codes. Sounds like you have a bad ground or something on the Comp. With my box off and just the 100hp injectors I get a sizable cloud at no boost but clears up quick. 5x5 lets the coal roal :D Is the wire tapped on the pump?
 
and 40 psi out of the hy? Good thing your putting in the 40. But how do you get 40 without a j-hook or plug? Mine has the hy and 24 was max until I got the j-hook, its set for 31 psi which keeps the turbo around 26 psi where it is most efficient.
 
ICS, did you ground the comp straight to the batt? How did you tap the VP wire? Check for codes lately? Can you swap your comp with another for testing (swing on by)? The HX40 is going to cleanup smoke... . You should be able to lay down a good fog on low boost with what you have right now.

Something to keep in mind is you are running a stock converter, very loose. That combined with your HY, and free flowing AFE make for instant spool, hence the low smoke. I'm not saying there isn't another issue, but add your DTT to get the power to the ground and see where you are at. Are your gears 4. 10's? That will make spoolup even quicker.

Once you get the turbo on, you will be smoking heavy. With the HY, you get less of overfuel on takeoff. But the power will be significantly more with the bigger turbo. You will have a lot more lag also. I am running a 14cm housing, and the lag is noticable in comparison to the smaller 12cm housing from my stock turbo. Your drivetrain will now start to see the strain :D . Good luck.



Also, with the VP44, you don't smoke if the pump is failing, due to the lack of fuel it can pump into the injectors. I gained a lot when I put the new pump in.

There has to be a connection problem. I don't have injectors, but can lay a good cloud just on 1x5 and even bigger on 2x5 etc. This was also the case before I upgraded turbos. I have 4:10 gears, afe, and had the hy35 and I could fog an intersection. Check the tap at the pump wire. If you used the clip that came with it, they tend to suck and provide a not so good contact. Also I don't know a whole lot about your turbo, but a 16cm housing will definatly lag quite a bit. If I turn my comp off, than my PS62 lags a little and it has a 12cm housing.

stock VP on 133K



the wire tap has been soddered and covered in liquid electrical tape, then a quick dis connect 2" after that (checked and no corrosion)



ground is to the truck not the battery.



I still cant figure it out, I can turn the box up and there is a GREAT Power difference yet the smoke is less and less.



I should have swapped with you (bill RnR) at the meet, heck maybe Ill get a weekend off and swing your way again.



yep 40 psi, (gauge at intake horn) I had a plug and boost fooler on but ridded it since I didnt see any difference other than higher Boost PSI

Have you checked for codes? I am back in town next weekend, we can meet up if you like. I definately recommend moving the comp ground directly to the batt. I think you might be surprised at how much "more" power 5x5 has when you get this worked out. ;) Excellent point about the stock converter, I already had the trans work prior to tapping the wire.
 
well guys I stopped into I-6DZL's house on my way to the womans and luckly his father was at his place (with his 01) and we swapped the BD (edge comp) for his dads "DRAG COMP" and its night and day (well day turned to night) so my box must be messed up. I was shocked how much it smoked! I did a 5x5 launch and it slipped the converter, Ive not been able to do that with my BD... . so ill try the ground sometime this week. But Im guessing its the box itself... . Soooooo who has the # for edge I can call to get this worked out.



I bought the box off a BD dealer but it has edge stickers on the back so do I go to the dealer, BD, or Edge?

Edge is taking care of me, I was shocked to hear a 2 year warranty!!! WHEW!!! Its going in for the upgrade and to be looked at, I described the problem to them and they said its for sure not working right if it smokes more at 1x5 than 5x5.



anyone know if I can upgrade it to a drag comp by them messing with the internals?
