I got a ride today in a Ram with Diesel Dynamics Stage 3 injectors, boost control, no other mod. He said it dyno'ed at 319 hp and seat of the pants agreed with that number. He could get a puff if he floored it from a dead stop. Smoke went away as soon as it got some boost and was moving. Full power driving otherwise gave either zero smoke or a very slight dusting that could hardly be seen. We are at 2000 ft altitude. Where's all the smoke I have heard about?

Also, Lawrence told me when I asked about them that his Stage 3 injectors are legal in California. Hmmm. He must be really good at that extrude honing. The truck idled well, was smooth, etc.

That Ram had a "clean-burn" smelling idle-not rich like would indicate poor atomization or poor sealing. In fact, there were none of the problems or issues that I have heard about from other sources of extrude honed injectors.

I was there today and rode in the same truck. It had NO smoke, just one light puff, only when Lawrence tried to smoke it. DD is the real deal. I have done a lot of research on this. DD is the best. Dr. Perf is a doctor of proctology, working on himself.

I know my stage II's are of the 'old brew',but I now have 30k miles on them and still think they are the best thing I ever bought for the truck.

I REALLY LOVE my Diesel Dynamics Stage 3 injectors! Smoke? I haven't experienced anything remotely close to objectionable smoke. I'd buy 'em again in a heartbeat! #ad

How What kind of injector upgrade is possible without too much smoke at 5000 feet? I get a pretty good puff of black smoke with just an EZ (at level 3) when I'm taking off from a dead stop with a decent load. I'm interested in injectors, but want to keep the smoke reasonable.

The more fuel you can get at zero boost, the more smoke. No fuel = no performance #ad

If you want a lot of performance you learn to drive by foot instead of having idiot proof machinery that won't let you have any fun #ad

How about a set of "super mental" [to use Lawrence's expression] injectors like Stage 5 or 6 or whatever? #ad
That's enough to make Sickly feel better #ad

I have a set of the "original" Stage 3's from late '99 in my truck, and I love them! With a PS boost module, PSA, and straight pipe, I dynoed right at 350, with slight clutch slippage. I get zero smoke when driving normally, but if I get on it, it smokes pretty good. I like it, especially when there is one of those pesky rice burners with his hood up your bungus. Just shift up and and press the go pedal. Instant smoke screen, and no more tailgater! #ad
Haven't been able to do that much though with my slippy clutch. #ad

The truck idles so much smoother with the 3's in, just sounds like it is supposed to. In my honest opinion, Diesel Dynamics injectors are the best modification for the engine. No one else comes close.

Stick guys can make smoke easy as compared to the auto trucks. Reason being is with the auto the engine has a chance to rev up while the torque converter does its thing. There is only a slight load to speak of, so the boost slowly starts to rise befoe fuel is dumped in when everything takes off. Right amount of fuel, right amount of air.

The stick truck builds zero boost as long as the clutch is pushed in. Once the clutch starts to grip the flywheel causing a load, the truck takes off, fuel is added, but boost is not as high as it would be in an auto at this point. Plenty of fuel, not enough air. Hope this helps

chad we auto impaired guys can make smoke also , with the 275's VA and my edge on HOT 3 . while cruising on the hiway at 70 if i left my foot off throttle so the TC unlocks and the engine comes down to almost an idle speed , then get on it hard and fast i can block out the sun #ad

. i can imagine what this combo would do with DD3's #ad

I have a set of "super mental" DDs that must be about Stage 6 and they idle quieter and smoother, and on acceleration feel noticeably smoother and much more responsive than the "parent" injectors they came from. It may seem hard to believe, but y'all know I'm hard to convince on aftermarket injectors, so believe it! No more smoke than the originals had, either, as far as I could tell in limited testing so far.

Sickly has been known to smoke a "little bit" but he is old enough #ad

They are kind of like fire hose nozzles, at least I hope so #ad
Sickly deserves the best and is thirsty #ad

Just come on up here to the mountains... About a year or so ago, I had 2 sets, Both M's and A's in 2 different trucks. They smoked so bad they blew chunks! On or off boost, it didn't matter. And that's with the infamous "boost module".

The guys at DD must have done something right since then to get rid of all that smoke.

Wait a minute Wiz1. Bill Kondolay just added the new DD True Torque Power Module (custom version of the Edge EZ) and a set of DD Stage 2 injectors to replace the Bosch 275s and Edge EZ he previously was running. He said the DD TTPM performed very well, adding no appreciable smoke. However, he also said that he couldn't get the Edge EZ to work nearly as well with the DD2s. Looks like the DD TTPM is the hot tip for those of us running DD2s and DD3s wanting a little more. Woohoo!

I wonder how much smoke is related to the 'health' of the lifter pump and or the age of the fuel filter and or the use of winter diesel??

I notice if I use a diesel additive that after 1/2 a tank of fuel I am generating significant smoke on my DDI's (w hotPE) as it was when the setup was new. If I am not using the additive I don't see the smoke anymore, even on hotPE Level 3).

Truck is going in next week, hopefully I can get the dealer to check the lifter pump before the warranty expires in a few hundred miles. Otherwise I am thinking about an aftermarket pump like HVAC and others are running.

Once my new clutch is installed I imagine I will dust off the hotPE and would hate to smoke my injector pump.

John,
much to my embarrassment in a conversation with Lawrence on Tuesday i found out i had DD1 injectors.

When i did my comparison dd1's(that i thought were dd11's)vs the 275's there was a large difference in performance of the dd injectors.

After installing kevin Arts dd11's i called Lawrence, Kevins truck literally jumps forward when the transmission changes gears forward. I am definately installing dd11's in my truck when i am in Vegas next week.

I can now see why guys think they dont need any other enhancements other than injectors.
I talked to Lawrence , he can build injectors with or without smoke.

PS/ you will be surprised to see how quickly the tc can build boost without being locked up.

Adam, you just gotta wait. You don't "deserve" more power yet #ad

Lawrence and I are trying some borderline, naah, way over the borderline #ad
things on poor old Sickly. Maybe I shouldn't have teased you folks, but I couldn't resist reminding the overvalved that we correctly valved ones are still alive and sweeping the floor for more hp. After I scoop up enough, you will get your chance #ad
Better save your pennies, as I can't guarantee the next 100 ooops two or three hp will come as easy as the first 500 did #ad
After all, this is a drug free zone, just like the schools. #ad

Sickly is gonna have some competition come May Maddness #ad
Lawrence & I have been talking about a certian 2001 & its chances of getting the super mental stage nines #ad
Of course now that I have a 24valve it's only a matter of time before I start giving ole sickly a run for his money #ad
LOL
