Well I finally convinced the wife the reason for the smoke out the exhaust was worn injectors. :-laf Installed some DDP140hp injectors and what a difference from the old 370's. Oo. Man the difference is well worth the money. Smoke is very controllable, smoother engine idle, lower egt's, everything they said they would be. Seat of pants meter = :D going on the dyno on the 9th. Now I need a wastegated housing or a bigger turbo:{

Been hearing a lot of good stuff about DDP. Can't wait to get rid of these nasty ol' 370s! How much lower are your EGTs?

No doubt that DDP puts out a good injector but if you have the tools to clean up the 370's and raise the pop pressures they will work better.

I'm interested in seeing a power difference between the two sets.

Jim

Buck,

Things around here have been too wet to play much but it looks like a good 150*-200* lower.

Jim I value your opinion, whats your guess for a difference?

Thanks,Robert

Jim...

We have a member who did the same thing on his 96 5spd truck back in the spring. His truck had previously laid down 397hp with 370's and a HX35/40 hybrid. With no other changes to the truck except for the DDP 4's instead of the 370's he made 424hp. So the new sticks netted him 27hp... ..... Andy

I just went in with the DDP II's, just wanted a little more than the 215's. Mainly tow heavy, so will see soon what the changes will be. Seem to have a little more smoke on bottom, not sure though. Pulls real good empty.

What pop off pressure is good for the 370's? What do you mean clean up?

Jim, I've seen you comment on the po-off pressure before. How much higher do you set the it? Any standard pump shop would have the resources to do it right? I imagine that this would atomize the fuel better, maybe clean up the spray pattern? Result would be more hp, lower egts, smoother running?

Told'ya you'd like them. :-laf

Sorry for the late post.

370's do better at 4000 to 4200 psi, if I remember right stock is 3600! The last two sets of 370's I have bought the pressures were at 4200... . set that way. The last set was a buds truck with a set of 4 year old 370's, it will be interesting to see the difference.

Andy, if he gained 27 hp and better driveability then I'd say it was worth it but he is short on air and pump. Add a tweaked 180/215 and a big single or Twins to the mix... ... . those numbers should be at or closer to a 50 hp gain.

Were talking 700 hp on #2 with mid sized Twins, drive it everyday and get 20 MPG... ... ... it's work but doable.

bmoeller,

Any hp change numbers?

Butt-o-meter, yes. Dyno, no. You can feel it, though. Oo.

I did put down 363hp/793tq at IRP '06 with the HX40 and a dirty fuel filter. DDP4s were already in. Was on a dyno with the 370s, but they were having problems, and couldn't get any numbers.

The gentleman who owns this truck has done all he wants to it. All his performance parts go into his 3rd Genner. He did tell me they do drive alot nicer..... Andy

One real difference I have noticed now with the II's is it takes twice as long to start as before with the 215's. Now probably three revs as before it was just a touch of the starter. It has been three days and I am already used to it.

Maybe different pop off pressures? I don't know.

Over the years I have tried several different brands of Injectors. I've used them in my 1st gen and this 98 12 valve.

I've tried stock Cummins/bosch high output units made for street (215-235 and some others) and marine (POD's). I've tried diesel Dynamics (good units)370's (tried higher pop pressure, no improvement), and some others.

as an experiement I tried a set of DDP 4's in my first gen and was blown away by their performance and streetability. absolutely loved them.

I've tried a couple brands in my 98 and now have DDP3's and will stick with them.

I expect a lot, I want good milage, temp control, towability (20,000lbs+) and some hot rodding. Plus, I have to pass emission testing every two years and don't want to swap injectors every time I go to test.

I know for every product there are several opinions and different wants and needs. But for my money, I'll stick with the DDP's.

I'm wanting to egt a set of DDP's but don't know if I want the 3's or 4's. I will be getting a new turbo also. This will be a daily driver and weekend play toy, so I don't want lots of smoke driving around town or egt's to get out of control. What are some opinions on which to get?
I know the 4's will be better to get me near my dream of 600hp for a daily driver though.

i agree guys im lovin my new 90 hp DDP just wanted somethin mild and safe on my trans i guess. . what other good options are there, i know of DDP 100hp. . is there that big of a difference??

I'm thinking a call to DDP would answer these questions. As i said, I have the 3's and really like them. Most likely I will stick with them.

and they don't smoke unless I flat peddle it.

If you have the air, and don't mash the skinny pedal at low boost or lug the engine, the DDP4s burn pretty clean. They can black out the sun if you lug it or low boost.

If you slide the AFC housing fully to the rear and tighten up the AFC spring, you could still probably pass the test.
