Gentlemen:
I have been driving my truck since early February with the direct replacement lift pump from FASS. I installed a stronger spring to increase fuel pressure and that has worked: The truck runs at about 17 psi at idle, 16 psi at cruise and about 14. 5-15 psi at wide open throttle. So far, so good.
I indicated in one of my last posts that my truck would sometimes not start after one click of the key--my gold standard for starting performance. Sometimes it would take and extra second or two... possibly three seconds... before the truck started.
I decided to drive the truck for awhile to see if I could establish a pattern. After several months, this pattern has emerged: Upon initial startup after say an overnight shutdown or a shutdown lasting several hours, the engine fires with one brief touch of the key/starter. However, if I am doing a number of errands, the engine will cranks for several seconds before it fires. It does not matter what position the truck is parked. It does not matter what altitude that the truck is operating at. It does not matter if the truck has been driven for hours or just a few minutes. The only thing that seems to determine starting performance is the time interval between shutdown and start-up---the longer the better. I think that it returns to its quick starting self after about a couple of hours of non-operation.
Any ideas? I have not approached the FASS people yet on the topic. Could it be an indication of injector pump issues? Heat related? Computer? I have no signs of trouble. The engine always does start. No trouble codes either.
Thank you in advance.
