2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission De-Badging

I started taking the stock dodge door badges off my truck last night and replacing them with the 3rd gen RAM 2500 ones.

It took me 90 minutes to get the passanger side one off and tape off the door. I used a combination of Goo Gone, and Adhesive Remover along with WD-40. After I got the glue off I cleaned the door and then applied the new badge.



For those who have taken these off before - is there an easier way then what I did? It is a big PITA, but I gotta tell you the chrome badge on the graphite paint looks sweet!



Tonight starts the drivers door!

I've heard of a few methods:



Warm the badge with a hair dryer

Use some fishing line to "saw" through the adhesive

Use CLEAN 100% COTTON towels and...

Rub like a son of a gun with adhesive remover

WAX the area



I think patience is the key, along with elbow grease.

How do you get the dealer sticker off the back of the tailgate that the dealer puts on when you buy it? I'm tried of advertising their business.

Get em hot and they will fall off with a little coaching, I have no emblems on mine... ... Cant tell its a diesel unless you look at the tailpipe or its running... .

I use a hair dryer to heat it up, then start peeling it off.

You may need adhesive cleaner to get any leftover glue off... but thats the easiest way.

Don't wax the area if you plan to put anything else on, unless you want to see your new shiny emblems tumbling along behind the truck one hot day!

Before I picked up my truck new from the dealer I told him "If you put one of your dealer ad stickers/logos/license plate frames on that truck I won't accept delivery. If you keep on being good guys I'll give you all the good word of mouth you can handle. "



So, I go to pick up the truck - any guesses? You bet! No dealer ads attached anywhere.

this is the proper way:

A heat gun, be careful not to burn the emblem or paint. Slowly peel the emblem off remove excess double sided tape with a plastic razor blade. Then get Ardex body shop quality overspray remover. I took all bodyside and tailgate mouldings off my 3500 dually. It looks sick!!

So where did the old badges end up? I am looking for a set or two to modify.

Another way to debadge is use a plastic spatula from your kitchen and a terrycloth rag. pry the badges off but put the rag down to not scratch the paint. The foam/glue also kind of "rolls" off when its cold. I did'nt use/need a heat gun, and it only took about an hour.

There's a product sold at professional auto paint shops called an "eraser. " It's a rubber thingy that chucks into a drill. It will remove decals and residual emblem goo. I was surprised at how well it did, and it didn't damage the paint at all. (Not that it would have mattered--I was preparing to repaint. )

Finished de-badging the drivers door last night. Went a little easier then the passanger side - still took at least an hour to de-stick the tape. Would I do it again, probably not... but the new 03 badges look really nice on it.
