I'm a 1st gen owner, but my friend just called me to come tow him in. He has 98 24 valve that I sold him last year. He was driving and accelerated to pass a car and the just up and died. No lights, no noises, he had just filled with fuel on his way out of town, all fuses are good. Turns over real fast and strong. He says the infector pump is squirting fuel but who knows? Is there some sort of fuel solenoid, or what? I'm leaving right now to rescue him so I'll be gone for a couple hours. Hope somebody can help, thanks in advance

Normally, would suspect VP-44 failure - but you say no lights - how about codes? Is the guy checking VP-44 flow, or LP flow? Gonna need more info...

With a '98, you will need a code scanner. If you have a p0216, p1688, or p1689, you will almost definately need a VP44. If you have some other combination of codes (you will see a p1693, p0500... ) and not the above codes, than look elsewhere, such as for a failed Crank Positioning Sensor. When these die, the motor will just quit and usually leave no codes.

I would check the CPS first, it costs much less than a VP44, and takes less time to change.

Let us know what codes you find.

Well, he could have filled it with gasoline or gotten a bad load of fuel that plugged the fuel filter.
