Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Dead 53 block 24 Valve considering replacement with 12 Valve

I have a 98 24 valve truck which I just scrapped the engine on due to cracks in the block and head. I already have a 12 valve 215 hp engine sitting here so I'm thinking about building it to tow and putting it in. I have searched but haven't really found any info on this swap. Installing the engine and making it run is no big deal. Making the factory gauges work properly is the question. Anyone done this before?
