My odometer quit at 175389 two days ago. The speedometer still works. Any ideas for fixing? I am guessing that I need a new speedo.

Headshot,

Did you ever get your's rebuilt? Did it fix it? What did it run ya? I haven't had a chance yet. Getting a house on the market has precluded any work on the truck for awhile.

This forum has a few ideas and places... ... ... . One of the places was $165. 00 I think. You might be better off with a used one. Oh... . if you're from NJ and you "replace" rather then repair your speedometer. YOU LEGALLY NEED TO GET YOUR TITLE UPDATED... jfyi

Since I'm going to probably fab up something custom. I have decided to forego rebuilding and just get a new speedo/odometer and a dozen other guages. I just can't get all of them to match. There is just so much wasted space on our dashes and our stock gauges are as useless as idiot lights. I should probably just start a new topic for that "What would a perfect dash consist of" for ideas... ... .

See if there is a speedo repair shop in your area. I had my speedo in my cuda rebuilt a few years back, about $60. Well worth it, and your mileage wont change.

Since my PCM died, and I'm a 'shadetree electronics engineer', I'm thinking of building my own PCM and electronic instrument cluster. Then I can add inputs for boost, pyrometer, etc. and just program the thing to display it how I want. Good wintertime project for when I'm snowed in. We'll see how far I get with this one, though (looks over at pile of other unfinished projects... )

I thought, "oh boy, who did what, how much boost was involved, or how hot was it running?" Glad it was only the odometer. AS for "updating" the title, couldnt you roll the numbers on the "new" odo around to close? Like within 1000mi? Or do they keep real close records of stuff like that? In CO and MO, I think you are exempt after a certain number of years, like 8 or 10 (?)

In Arizona you can just file a waiver that the speedo is not original and miles are in excess of ???, or simply unknown.

My Chevy PU hasn't had a working speedo in years. It was broke when I bought it. The title says "Unknown".

If you don't have access to a good speedo shop, there is a very good one in Phoenix. My company uses it to repair the fleet vehicles' stuff.

I used them once. Seemed to do a good job.
