What's your opinion on Cummins service shops?

A friend of mine, against my advice, recently bought an F350 heavy duty Ford PU. Two months late it blew two injectors and, you guessed it, the dealer refuses to honor warranty. Claims water in the fuel, but no light came on to indicated water in fuel (maybe Ford doesnt have one like Dodge). Dealer wants $1500 to break down engine to find damage. Supposedly there was a recall on Fords '03 injectors but no admission from Ford. New engine is $9,000.

I feel sorry for him, but I told him to buy a real truck. ;)

A gentleman in my FD had a similar problem last month. He also had a F-350 4x4 ex. cab diesel. I was in the truck several times and I can tell you that it was a sweet truck.

Apparently the fuel injector on #6 stuck open slightly. The truck would still run, but had a slight miss. He didn't realize the problem until the truck toasted itself. I saw him the other night in a Black Chevy 2500 HD. I think that Ford offered him a buy back option, but he worked some kinda deal for cash instead. The F-350 was his first, and I believe last, Ford. The shame of the matter is that Ford has made a really good product in the past. They just really missed the boat on this one. Every manufacturer has its share of problems, but at this point, I'm afraid that Ford is going to loose even its most loyal truck buyers.

Tell your friend to do some Internet searches on 6. 0L PSD failures. He will find tons of information on the ongoing problems with the 6. 0. I wouldn't be satisfied with the answer that dealer gave him. I think that he would have better luck having the problem solved through the Ford corporate offices.

Good luck

Justin

The warranty issue - and denial - is WAY to common - and one of the reasons I decided to simply ignore it and make whatever mods I wanted as soon as I got my truck home...

Too many guys play by the rules, let the warranty hold them hostage for 7 years or 100,000 miles, and drive less truck than they REALLY want - only to find several years down the road that their dealer will weasel outta the warranty they THOUGHT they had all those miles and years... Doesn't happen all the time - but enough!

Sorry about the Ford guys loss - money's too hard to come by these days to waste it, and none of us win when Ford or GM crash and burn...

Where is..........

That " Cleaner" guy when you need him? He can console the dead ford owner with "facts " about the superiority of their engines. Flame suit on, Don:D ;)

My truck has been on the back of a tow truck twice. Once when the fuel line split, a recall item; and once when the injector pump went out. The fuel line busted on me in Tx. I called the 1800 number and I had a tow truck there a short time later. Towed me to San Angelo. They had to get the fuel line out of Dallas the next day, so they paid for a hotel and two meals. I was treated very well by everyone at the dealer.

The second time, I had the injector pump go out with 102k miles. The dealer was saying, "sorry it is out of warrenty". I called the 1800 number and they said that they would bill it as a warrenty job and I would pay half of it. So I got a new lift pump and a new injector pump for under $850. And yes I did say a new injector pump, not a rebuild.

Both times when I have needed Chrysler, they were there for me. I am very pleased with their product and their service. My experence with Ford, well lets just say they will never see a dime from me again.
