Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) dead gas pedal....code p0602

i have been fighting a problem with my truck for some time now. i have been getting dead pedal where the truck is in some kind of limp mode. it only happens when i am on the throttle very slightly. i come to a hill and press on the accel. and i get very little acceleration untill i floor it or let off and let the truck idle and repress on the pedal. either of the above things seems to fix the problem. another thing i noticed is that it usually is very bad when the temp outside is high(over 80) and the truck is heat soaked for a while. i have done some research on the code and have got mixed results. some people say it is the vp-44 and others say it is the ecm. the code description i got for 602 was "inj. pump timing failure". i recently looked on this site and found someone had posted the list of codes and it was listed as "ecm communication error". one more peice of info, the edge comp that is installed on my truck can be on, off, turned up, turned down and it seems to have no affect on it. i would hate to replace the vp to drive home and have it happen. . :{ that would really get to me. 1000k down the drain. i am now leaning towards the ecm. it is right behing the turbo, could it be getting hot and malfunctioning? any info is great!!!!!

Control Module programing error is what my program shows for the P0602 code for your truck. Doesn't make it right, others might say something different.

The pcm is on the firewall behind the air box. The ecm is located on the drivers side of the engine behind the fuel filter.



The Po602 is an ecm code operating out of stock parameters

My truck did the same thing when i unplugged the map sensor with my comp, plugged it back in, no codes. I was just experimenting blowing black smoke. [a friend said try it] it had the same code, no check engine light.

I have been fighting the same thing. VP44 did not cure it. My last try was to change the map sensor and so far so good. But it has gone away before and returned. My would do it when it was really hot but recently started doing it when it was cold as well.

Possible, but don't just go buy one, usually it is the connection on the sensor or corrosion etc. I would check the connections & make sure it isn't something dumb like that first. [Ibelieve the 0602 code was followed by a 0236 or something like thaton my truck]

try a search on here for iat sensor. (Intake Ait Temp) it helped my truck out a lot. hth

i am glad that i am not the only one!!! are your symptoms the same as mine? with mine, it seems like i can just either smash the gas or let off completly and let it idle for a second or two and vooosh, off she goes... . very intermitten and seems to be worse when hot. but like you, mine has acted up two times or so this month in the 40 deg. weather. i am glad that i have not replaced the vp. i was getting ready to bite the bullet and get a blue chip. i have done some searching of the archives and found some other people that have complained about map sensors giving code 602. make sure you keep me updated!!!! thanks for the info..... keep it cummin... .

Update!!!

Just today i scanned for codes, even though i have not had a problem in days, and found a code p0216(inj pump timing failure). any ideas?????

sounds like a vp44 prob to me. any others with suggestions?

P0216 usually means Replacing the VP44.



Some last a little while while others leave you stranded. The thing is you never know when it will give up the ghost
