A friend of mine has a 2000 3500 w/ edge comp with out the injector pump wire hooked up. He just gave me a call that his truck shut down like the switch had been cut off while driving down the road. :{ He had good fuel pressure per the gauge? I'm thinking that the vp44 has died? He has a FASS pump sytem installed now, but has had the normal lift pump failures in the past before gettting the fass system. Do you all have any other ideas or possibilities? Or if it is the pump is there any way to get it to fire up to limp it home to save a tow bill?
Thanks in advance for you help, I'm just trying to help him get off of the side of the road.

What codes is he seeing?

I was just trying to help him over the phone off the side of the road. There was no check engine light or miss it just shut down while driving down the road. I will have him to check the codes when he get it off the road.

Thanks.

North East TN near Kingsport. He's got a tow truck under it now getting it hauled in. So at least he's off the side of the road. I hope it's something simple but I'm still thinking it's probably the injector pump. Thanks for the help.

I think you're right about the pump. The his truck shut down like the switch had been cut off while driving down the road. He had good fuel pressure per the gauge are exactly what I experienced with my unmodified 2000 Cummins/Ram at 130,737 miles, along with the dreaded P1688 Internal Fuel Injection Pump Failure code.

At least he's off the road.
