i had set out on an 800mi trip this past weekend. when i got to the highway i set the cruise 75,almost half way through the trip i pulled into a reststop and noticed a high idle. got back on the road and a short time later i had no pedal response. i costed to a stop, the engine still ran but still no petal response and a check engine lite. shut the truck off and then started it back up. my pedal came back. i decided to continue my trip,i kept the cruise off and had no problems. after refueling close to home ,i started my truck and the check engine went out. got home and checked the codes. 0500,1693,0121.

43k on truck.

injection pump replaced 500mi ago under warranty.

fuel pressure 14 idle 12 cruising.

any ideas.

thanks rw

I took a 1200 mile trip over the Chrismas holidayand had the same issue multiple times. Code 0121 came up for me as well and the aclerator pedal is fine as long as I don't use the cruise control. I am convinced it has something to do with the cruise control. My truck is the exact same year as yours RW. Did you get yours fixed yet?

Must be a gremlin going aroud the country setting off codes in Dodge diesels. Decided to pull codes yesterday and had those exact same codes, had no drivability issues

i have not had any problems since, but i have not used my cruise. so i am with you, i belive it is a cruise issue.

rw

It is somewhat related to the use of cruise control. If I use my cruise for over 100 miles,no matter what speed I can expect a dead pedal about 50% of the time as soon as I get off cruise. A dodge mechanic told me that since our engine is fly by wire, over a period of time on cruise the ECM and the APPS mis-align and when you drop off cruise it sends the ECM to default idle. (dead pedal)

Cure= New APPS=$$$$

Thanks for the info. I will try to recalibrate the Apps like I have seen in other posts to see if that helps. I guess I can live without the cruise if I have to.

Same problem w/ mine a couple years ago. This can be an intermitent problem until the APPS dies completely. A new unit isnt cheap and no aftermarkets were produced. A recent issue of TDR shows how to service the potentiometer part of the APPS and may save you about $500. (wish that info was available when I needed one!!!!!!!!)
