OK guys here is the situation that has me baffled,

My pickup has 105,00 miles on it and I replaced the VP44 last summer about 8,000 miles ago. Since then I've installed a FASS 150/95 and have got real good pressure now. I went through several stock lift pumps and finally need something more reliable. I was having real bad hesitation, but seemed to go away with the addition of the FASS,(for a couple weeks) but the problem is back and worse than ever. I need to mention that it has been extremely cold and seems to be worse when it is cold outside. I could not get any faster that 25 mph the other day and could not rev any faster than 2300 rpm. sounds to me like a vp problem or a apps problem but the darn thing wont throw a code of any kind even when i take it to a shop and have them check with their cummins scanner. I disconnected my edge comp tonight completely to see if it has something to do with it but i have not had it turned on during all of these problems. Has anyone had similar problems? my edge is a rev. 7. 0 and I don't know if it could have been giving me problems but we'll see if the problem goes away with it out of the loop.

frustrated and could use some help,

Pat

are you sure your fuel is not gelled a little and your filter is clean 2002 drw 4x4 ,getting new vp44 installed as we speak 6 sp FASS afi cfm edge juice/att@monitor mbbm 4in. exhaust

Where are you located at? If you are some place that doesn't sell treated fuel, I would agree with TWhitfill in that your fuel may be gelling up. Add some white bottle Power Service to help it out. If you want faster results, get the red bottle.

Ben

Don't over look your boost/map sensor. . I had a truck here that had dead pedal. Turn out to be the map sensor.

thanks for the input guys, I have been adding the power service additive for jelling and I also added the stanodyne lubricity additive in hopes of lubing things up. My pickup ran great for a week to 10 days and then started to hesitate again. I have thought of the map sensor but do you know if it would throw a code if it was faulty? Thats when i dedcided to eliminate the EDGE all together.

CAM Position Sensor?
You could possibly have a worn injector. Are they stock? 100k is not that many miles on the stock injectors, but you could have one that is getting weak.

I hate to say, but it is probably a VP44 issue.
You could also have water or other contaminants in the fuel.

It sounds like the APPS to me but it should throw a code if that's the problem.

I left my MAP unplugged one time and it ran about the same as you describe also... very little power. Again a code came up due to low boost. Yours might just be dirty. Wouldn't hurt to remove it and take a look.

Mike

Have you tried keying the ignition switch 3 time in rapid successon and watching to see what if any fault codes are generated on the odometer?

yes i have tried the key cycle and still have not got any codes. after unplugging my edge comp i have not have any issues, but it's been only about 200 miles since that. Yes i have thought of the MAP and the IAT sensor both possibly causing a problem. now that the work week will start tomorrow I will be driving it in conditions that would give me the problem. I will keep you keep you guys informed on what i find. so far it might have been my edge but we'll find out

finally resolved!!!

alright guys here was the solution to my hesitation problem.

after a month in the shop and all the frustration from both me and the guys in the shop, they finally found out that the ECM was bad. The problem would only show up when it was cold out, and by the time they would get it have the problem, the ECM would warm up enough not be showing symptoms of the problem. After a little while it would start to do it more frequent and for longer periods of time so they were able to spend more time diagnosing it and finally just replaced my ECM with another trucks that was in the lot and the problem went away. So now with a month gone by and 1800 bucks later i've got my truck back and it's running real good. I have not tapped my Edge Comp yet because i'm not completly faithful in Big Red quite yet but the faith is slowly coming back.

thanks for your input and hope my issues might help someone else with similar problems. The first thing I think we did wrong is that it was running so bad that we all suspected fueling problems but no codes were being set. My problem was so intermitant and temperature related with no codes, that we should have suspected the ECM first instead of last.
