2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Daytime Running Light Question

I was on my way home yesterday, last leg of about 200 miles, when I got a dead petal at 55. It was the first time just driving with my foot. For about a year I haven’t been able to use my cruse because it would give me a 1693 code and a dead petal after every other use. It has NEVER shut off and all I ever had to do is pat the go petal (less then 2 seconds) to get it going again. I have read post after post and I can’t seem to find the answer I’m looking for. I have never changed the VP44, APPS (did do reset several times) or the Map. I always have 18 – 21 fuel press (14 @ WOT on 5x5) and don’t see any other problems. Tell me what you think would be the best thing to look at first or if there is a way to tell just what it is.

Thanks,

Gregg

dead pedel since new and 1693 code

Well if it is any consolation to you mine always runs on dead pedel other then for a couple of months earlier this year. For me it is a function of an arc in the electrical system either in the wiring harness or in the voltage control in the PCM. I will have to be sure that they have the ability to diagnos it, if it is in the PCM BEFORE I authorize the dollarships to replace it. Tooo many $$$$thousands of dollars wasted on those who haven't a clue what they are doing.

So it will run on a bad apps. They actually told me that it doesn't need to be reset unless it is replaced. :-laf

If you have a 1693 (PCM code), there is a companion code from the ECM. Let the codes run until the odometer shows back up. You have only ran 1/2 of the test.

Thanks TDR. If it is a wire problem where do I need to look? Also, can Autozone scan the sub-codes on our trucks or do I have to go to the dealer?

Gregg

AutoZone canfind all of the code and the fact that you have the 1693 means there is another one in there. Find out what that one is and let us know.

The only problem with AutoZone is they have generic code definitions and may not give you anything near what the code really means. I had a code on my truck, they told me it was an electronic waste gate malfunction! I think that was the cam position sensor after I searched here. Their numbers will be right but the terms won't be.

How did you get the first code? I assumed that you did the key 3 times. All you have to do is cycle the key "Off" then "On" without starting the truck 3 times. When you get to "On", wait for the first chime. It goes "Off", then "On", Chime then Off, then On, Chime, then Off, then On, Chime. The Codes will come up in the odometer window. Wait until the odometer comes back on. It will run the PCM test, display the 1693 code, then say "Done" then it will run the ECM test, display the companion code say "Done", then the odometer mileage will come back up. Write all the codes down, then in the FAQ section at that header of the 24V Engine /trans section, There is a sticky that list all the codes.

Learguy,

You guessed correct, I did the key off/on three times and only got the 1693 code. Then it said done and went back to the odometer and left the check engine light on.

No change, no new codes.

I'll check the codes again when I get out here at 1900 then the wires when I get home.

Thanks

Gregg

Would setting the voltage to the reading on the label of the APPS help the problem or am I getting off the path?

I have done most of the work to my truck with the help of TSRAM and Olee Poole, so I don't think I would mess the APPS up. I work with a guy who has a 99 and he just did his but he had different shifting problems. He said he would help show me what to do. And I did get the big orange bible to help out.

I don't think the resetting of the APS will help. But then again there is nothing to lose by trying it. Let us know if it did the trick. ;)

We are getting a 1492 code, along with a 1693 on a guy's truck here at work... I take it that the 1693 is a companion code?? Please chime in so I can figure out how to clear it. . Thanks!

What year is his truck

I finally got a chance to reset the APPS. It was reading . 326, while the label had . 549. I got it set at . 552 and only drove it about 100 miles. I never got a dead petal but it did give me the 1693 code right when I turned the key to start it the first time. I’ll try the cruse today and see what happens there and stop by the parts house to check the companion codes. It still has some surging at 40-50 mph.

Thanks for the help

Gregg

No dead pedal, still 1693

No dead pedal as of yet. Cruse has run fine the few times I’ve used it and the truck does seem a little more responsive on takeoff. I’ll chime back in if I have any more problems.

For now I’m waiting on Marco and his Smarty for some real throttle response. Thanks for the help.
