My sister who lives in a small town in Arkansas has a 99 4x4 24v quad cab, 5speed. The tach started bouncing, went dead, then the truck died. It will start and run but won't stay on past a random time frame. I search the TDR and came up with the procedure to read the codes from her odometer (ignition key on-off-on-off-on). She tried it and it won't display any codes. She can't get the odometer to display anything other than the mileage. Any ideas?
I told her it sounds like a cam or crank sensor. What software is available to allow her to hook up her computer to the ODBII connection and read the codes and where would she get the cable? She would need a fairly long cable around 25 feet to make the connection, she doesn't have a laptop.
Thanks.
