What is the secret to getting the codes on a '98. 5 24-valve? I tried the key "on-off-on-off-on" that I read in another post, and various other combinations and do not get anything. Just the OD reading. My Service Manual for my '98 12-valve says to use a scan tool. No help there. The truck is the SO's fathers. Unemployed due to health problems and has a dead truck and limited $$s to repair, so I'm trying to help him out. Truck has 106,000 miles so no warranty left. Ran one day, won't start the next. I can't hear the fuel pump. I tried swapping relays in the PDC and still nothing. I pulled one of the plugs on top of the filter and there is no fuel. I presume the lift pump has died. I suppose I should check for power at the fuel pump to eliminate a wiring problem. Anything else? Whats next? Is the pump a Dodge part or a Cummins part? The truck was bought used with 60,000 miles so I don't know any history. It appears to be bone stock. It has an auto. transmission and 4x4.

Cycling the key doesn't work on the 98's. You will have to get someone with a code reader to pull them off for you. Try an auto shop like autozone, they usually do it for free.
