I just installed a PE Comp box yesterday and already killed my truck. (yes-guages and trans upgrades are on the way) Tested it last night and everything seemed to go well-never went above level two... . but today set at level three and going up the on ramp (empty-no load or trailer) my truck died. It still cranks, but dosent seem to be getting any fuel... what have I done? any ideas? I know I probably got greedy, but I literally only had it on level tree for a few minutes. I was worried more about transmission failure than anything else. Did I kill the lift pump? or the injection pump itself? Also is there any way to hide the damage to the pump wire from the scotchlock? I appreciate any help... . thanks

How many miles on your truck? If you had a weak injection pump then yes it could have possibly threw in the towel. I would start by completely disconnecting the PE completely and starting from scratch. Do you have a service manual? If so then check all related fuses. Then check to see if your getting fuel. Thats where I would start. Rig a temp test gauge for fuel pressure.

The first thing I'd check is that all connections are still secure and the fuses are good. If that doesn't fix the problem then remove the box and see if it runs.

injection pump

Does'nt sound good. Being a '99... there's more likelihood of a bad VP44 than the last couple of model yrs. Hope not!

Did you try bumping the starter ? If so, any noise from the lift pump? I don't know how loud the Carter pumps are, but I can clearly hear the Mallory when I bump the starter. My guess is the VP44, hope I'm wrong. On mine, guessing on yours as well, there is a relay in the power distribution center, under the hood, that controls the VP44, might want to check that as well. The stock lift pump (on mine anyway) was controlled by the ECM, there is no fuse for the lift pump. I checked when my first Mallory died, which was then powered by the ECM wire. The only related item that I could find was that VP44 relay, hope this helps !!!

Sorry to hear of the problem, but this IS the risk we take with the VP44 pumps. It sounds like it's smoked to me,but you may as well check the obvious first (fuses, relays and such). The only real way to find out if the pump is smoked is to hook up a code scanner and see if the "pump timing failure" code comes up.

Be prepared for warranty denial because when a smoked injection pump goes into the dealership, the first thing the techs are taught to look for is the damaged pump wires. It's worth a try though...

I just had a vp replaced and my truck still runs bad and brings up a timing sensor malfunction could I have a bad pump again ?

bad pump again?

Yep. There have been reports of up to 3 pumps, brand new, one right after another until finally got a good one, although that's been some time ago... I would think that it would be rare now, but... .
